Allok reacted to KiwiZac in 1/32 Boulton Paul Defiant - new kit design?
Spare a thought for the Kiwis and Aussies!
It's all looking marvellous Peter, well done to you and everyone involved. My modelling budget is nil so I'll have to live vicariously through others' purchases and I'm excited.

Wow, this looks like fun.
Let's hope you get a pile of styrene sheet for Xmas.

Allok reacted to seiran01 in DH.9 - NZPAF 1920s, Wingnut Wings kit
After 7 months work, the kiwi DH.9 is FINALLY finished, and boy am I proud of this one. Built OOB with 2 or 3 donor parts from a Ninak kit thanks to clumsy hands.

Allok got a reaction from mpk in 1/32 Heinkel He 100D
Special Hobby gained another big fan when they released this gem. Although the little Heinkel was built in very limited numbers (25?) and was never used operationally, the appeal is undeniable. It's a real shame there are none left.
I'm going to put this together at a leisurely pace and mostly OOB, with the exception of the cockpit, which I will attempt to correct using some of the terrific references supplied by other LSP members and the GPM card model.
So I may as well start with that
Wish me luck.

Good luck with the ignoring thing.
How about a few pics before you start ignoring it?

Nice going Dave.
You're making it look easy.

Allok got a reaction from dutik in 1/32 Heinkel He 100D
She is finally ready for roll out:
I feel like I've run a marathon.

Allok got a reaction from ChuckT in 1/32 Heinkel He 100D
I'm having a bit of a 'mare with the main gear covers. I can't figure out if they are too short or the wheels are just too small. Either way, something looks off so I have elected to lengthen the covers by nearly 3mm.
Here are a few random shots with all the markings on:
The legs on this thing are very fragile and spindly. Working on it, or even just moving it becomes a challenge. The tail wheel has fallen off several times and is showing signs of wear.
Another thing which is perplexing me is the over all stance of the aeroplane. The model looks less "nose high" than in the photos and the tail seems too far off the ground. This issue might just be illusions caused by camera angles but it doesn't quite look right.

I thought this one was pretty good: (understatement)
Don't forget to send a quick article off to Erik for the main page.

Allok got a reaction from Tewika in 1/32 Hungarian Messerschmitt
Finally managed to take some photos. Sorry there's only three but here's the build thread with significantly more.

Here's a few shots in the field.

All completed.
I decided to persevere with the weathering.
Experiments with some severely diluted Tamiya flat white yielded satisfactory paint fade effect. The paint chips are done with a brush and I use metallic grey over flat silver. This time I used matt black for the smoke streaks rather than smoke, seemed to work out better on the darker surfaces.
Some of the other extra bits include; Aeromaster Spitfire decals (The A & B roundels are a little larger than they should be but the colours are good) Hobby Decal dry transfer data.
The landing lights are discs of aluminium foil and melted clear rod. I will try and give details of this in the tips area at some stage.
The rest of the pics are in my photobucket album... RNZAF Hurricane
Enjoy guys.

Cheers Erwin.
It's amazing what you can do with a $20.00 airbrush if you're careful.
Some decals have arrived and I have been slowly working away at it. Still a few more bits to do.

A little progress:
Pics showing the new dash and gun sight... still needs paint.
Seatbelts and canopy handgrabs.
The decals are causing me some grief. The Eagle Strike Hurricane sheet has gone out of production and they never contacted me after I tried to order them. So I've been waiting and waiting for something that's not coming.
I'll see if the early Spitfire ones will work.

A bit more detailing in the cockpit.
Apart from the gun sight and the seat belts, this is about as much as I can be bothered putting in.
I can just about smell the paint going on to this one!
I've always wanted to do the bezel thing but always ended up chickening out, perhaps this time...

Also decided to add a little detail in the radiator area, which I was initially not going to do.
I've only made tiny advances on the cockpit. It's all very tricky.
Hopefully I'll have some paint on it by next weekend.

Allok got a reaction from sandokan in Hawker Hurricane IIB FINISHED
Only got a little bit done this week.
Removed the cannons, filled in some holes and made a few new ones.
In hind sight, I would probably have been better of starting with a MKI. But the early ones are always so much more expensive.

Haven't gotten very far this week. I've been working in the cockpit and it's pretty fiddly stuff. Most of the time I just sit here and stare at it... eyes glazed
Would have liked to have rescued the kit instrument panel... but it was too large. So I've started scratching a new one. Here it is so far;
Thought I'd try the sexy blue back ground thingy. Here's a close up;
With seat removed;
A close up of that instrument panel;
A quick check to make sure it all still fits;
Mmmm. Gone cross-eyed!

Cheers guys.
Mmmm... My partner keeps hassling me about the stalled bathroom renovation.
I want to get as many kits done as possible before she has the baby!
Jody; I'm sure all the guys here would love to see your builds no matter what they look like. My kits looked like crap when I first visited this site. (Now I just make the pics really grainy so you can't tell )
A quick mock-up just to make sure it still fits together with all the home made bits installed;

The new scatch "dog kennel" before I put the rest of the controls/instruments in.
I managed to rescue the original control stick! That'll be a first. It's actually quite good.
The original cockpit wasn't really all that bad either, just simplified.

New wheel well is done, ready for paint.
I've kept it nice and simple, no one's really going to see up under there anyway.

Well... I may have spoken too soon!
As I build a new cockpit, I discover that the top of the wheel well is visible in there.
So out it comes, I'm scratching up a new one!!!
