    Thanks chaps, update time.
The result of a few evenings literally building up an aircrafts structure. This is really fun ( apart from the cleaning up of the many seams).
Thanks Airfix for providing such an intricate assembly. The seat has great detail too. The tank which fits behind the seat has a very strange and dufficult to clean up joint. After the basic structure is finished it will be sprayed steel.
    Cheers

This thread replaces my earlier Revell Typhoon thread. During my visit last weekend in Antwerp I spotted it for a good price, I just couldn't resist it. It just has to be build. The Revell kit is hibernating now for a future rainy day. Sorry for the confusion.

    First the obligatory box photograph.

This is a furry measuring device. Although this is a chubby beasty, there is plenty of space left

Sticking plastic together has commenceth too. The spar has a doubler fitted using good old clothes pegs.

As mentioned in Iains thread I have started on the new Revell Spitfire. So much talk about this kit but ever so few real builds. Those who have consider it to be a nice kit with an unbeatable price. So far I have put the wing and feathers together. Haven't made up my mind what mark it will be. Can be any of three. But chosing which has some effect on altering the kit parts. I will be using the Eduard interior set.
I might go for a Mk Va. Who knows. I do have sanded off the strange patches. Still need to restore the line. Anyway, crappy pic time

For those interested, ADH will release a new title in September, aimed at building the Revell Mk.IIa Spit. My intel? I wrote it.

    Hope you'll like it!

Pre-orders being taken at the ADH site for £9.95, plus P&P.

The Do 335 is finished, and it's BIG. It's also very heavy. Compared to the test shot I built of the Revell Spit Mk.IIa, it's positively a monster. Here's the bird, compared against RJ Mitchell's dainty girl:

    Iain,
You hit the nail square on the head. It's the character or look that's important. A few mm's too long or too
short do not matter. In my opinion that is.

Ahh the FM Halton. I once started a conversion into a Mk III, but it is not as easy as it might be. The nose is solid with loading doors engraved.
For a conversion you need to cut of the tip of the nose, fill the doorlines and scribe new lines for the bomber nose. But it can be done.
I bought mine from Hannants when they had it on sale some years ago.
    Good project.

Although I too contributed to canopy gate, I must admit that in all this there is actually not a lot of analysis of the kit itself

I have it, and am pleased with it, but it would be nice to have a more technical / critical eye cast over it

    Derek,
IMHO the British Phantom is more desirable for a certain part of Northwestern Europe.
A major manufacturer would think twice before bringing out a 1/32 version. Rumours
are nice but you cannot keep a fire burning on one.
Keeping an eye means nothing is going to happen.
    Get on with it.

    Hi all,

    A little progress this evening...

Seat back marked out and 'upholstery' scribed - followed by work with file and sandpaper. More like the original now:

    And assembled:

Started looking at the wheels and, as reported elsewhere, the hubs are a poor shape - bulging out rather than being 'dished' in. Quick thought have me looking at mating Hasegawa outer hub/tyre with Revell's rears - but found the Revell tyre smaller in diameter. Will probably go Hasegawa - but will need to make up rear hubs to mount to legs...

Angled 'wheel liners' fitted - no drama.

Radiator duct sides boxed in with 10 thou sheet and neatened up. Now drying...

Further to oil cooler photos/thoughts earlier I've started to mod the kit item. Nose, round, intake removed - and kit cooler cut horizontally before removing material to reduce height and re-shape front. Still a work in progress:

Tail wheel leg assembled - and I can confirm it can be slid in place *after* the fuselage is together.

And - yes - am aware of Barracuda's ace new parts - but want to see what I can improve from the kit.

    More next time!

    Iain

Now that I had the wings mated to the fuselage and the gear bays detailed up with solder wiring and painted... I could concentrate on the addition of more detail in the main areas I like to address, namely: the cockpit windshield area, the wing to fuselage fairing, the radiator exit ramp area, and the rear canopy area... I find that these are areas that the eye tends to focus on when observing the model. The other areas that I like to detail up are the main lading gear and gear doors... more on these areas later!
I decided to cut out the main radiator exit ramp door... most period photos show this ramp door in a slightly open position, and by positioning the ramp door in the open position I believe it adds that small, but important amount of realism! As well, the provided 20mm canon openings needed to be opened up to a larger diameter.

Lots of sanding and filling using Mr. Surfacer 500 in that huge radiator area!!

Here is a better shot showing the above mentioned fairing work using Mr. Surfacer 500...
