HAF 1/32 F-104G Italeri

Hi all,

Following my F-15I disaster I took a short break to recoup.
I decided to start Italeri's F-104G kit and will depict an aircraft of the Hellenic Air Force.

While I like Italeri's Greek scheme I'm still undecided on the final one so if you guys can propose another HAF scheme please let me know (preferably a variation of the SEA scheme  :) ).

For this kit I will be using a CMK resin cockpit and Eduard's PE set for the gunbay and resin wheels.
As the resin sets are still on their way I first started with the gun bay.

Italeri's set is for the C variant but I still wanted to add a bit more detail so was happy with some innacuracy.

I drilled holes around the plastic and carefully sliced through each one of them with a new blade.

I then cleaned up the area in preparation for the PE parts.

I figured the PE would be too flimsy by their own so backed them up with thin plastic card.

I used superglue to hold everything in place.

And the gunbay is ready with cannon in place to see if everything falls in place well! This it the first time I used PE extensively so I'm pretty happy with the result!

I also did some detail work in the avionics bay by adding lead wire and plastic to depict various cables and structures.

Hope you guys like it! Will update tomorrow following this evening's painting session!

Hi all! I did a bit more work on the gunbay, undercarriage and engine.

First, the gunbay. I was a bit confused with the colour as I found pictured that showed it in natural metal, grey and white. Eventually, I decided to follow the instructions and paint it white. The cannon was painted with Alclad's exhaust then lightly sprayed with aluminium. A black wash brought up all the details.

All the undercarriage was painted dark aluminium and details in black and white. A black wash was again used to highlight all the details.

For the front undercarriage I used a lense from little cars to depict the light.

I also did some work on the engine which I will be posting later today.

Hi all! Having finished the front undercarriage I moved on to the main one. The detail is actually too flat and probably innacurate but decided not to add any extra detail as the wheel covers would cover most of it. All the parts were painted with light aluminium. The wires were first base painted in black and the top with white. A light black wash was the final step.

I also built and painted the engine. I used various metallic shades including light and dark aluminium, steel, jet exhaust and transparent blue for the different areas. Silver was used to paint the smaller details. A black and brown wash highlighted all the details.

Now I gotta figure how to fill up the empty fuselage.

Any feedback is most welcome!

A-ha, yep, it will be very cool. So for the fuselage - i would glue it just like that and then "reinforce" it at a few/dozen key places with plastic rods from the stock sprues. Long thick plastic rods, glued from side to side inside the fuselage. But only if the voidness is accessible...

I ended up making a FOD/blanking plate to put at the rear end!  :)

Awesome work - are you going to do a really filthy one - greek ones are awesome with that (only a modeler can say that)

I just bought the Italeri 104 too, to do a Danish one - very lovely filthy too. Not opened up like yours though.

Looking forward to following this
