Breaker
Evening all, I'm looking at decals for a P-38 build and the majority of the attractive schemes I'm seeing are for J's. I'm a fast jet guy, so WWII is a grey area, it seems like the only visible difference is the dive brakes on the lower wings with nothing obvious for the boosted controls. Removing the raised panel on the bottom of the trumpeter kit wing should be enough. Can someone with more WWII knowledge let me know if I'm on the right track please? Thanks, Simon
Juggernut
Later production Js had dive brakes P-38J-25 and subs if memory serves), fuel pump covers not on the J (two bumps underneath each wing inboard and outboard of the nacelles); landing light under wing on the J ( not sure whether that applies to all J’s or just the earlier ones vs leading edge on the L. Early J’s had rounded windscreen and separate bulletproof glass where later J’s and L’s incorporated it into the windscreen. Those are the only ones I’m familiar with but there may be others depending on the production block J you’re looking to model. Grizly
I completed my Trumpeter P-38 as Colonel Harold Rau's aircraft "Gentle Annie". While I am happy with the model, it would be great if Tamiya were to offer a P-38J or L in 1/32 scale. jwest21, BiggTim, dennismcc and 7 others
