Marcel111
Hi guys, Can anyone help with pics of the F-4B Main Wheels, specifically the outside? I.e. the side of the wheel mostly covered by the MLG door. I have the Reskit wheels but can’t figure out what is up or down, forward or back. https://reskit-models.com/scale-plastic-model-kits?product_id=5265 Thanks, Marcel

Oldbaldguy
Brake calipers are usually on the strut side. They have to be attached to a fixed structure.

D Bellis
Inboard side of the mainwheel in situ on an F4H-1 (later relabeled F-4B in 1962), which verifies the excellent info above: HTH, D LSP_K2
D Bellis
Looking at things a bit closer, this pic seems to show the raised component to be mounted forward of the leg on the outboard side of the wheel: If that is correct, then this would be the orientation of the ResKit parts: HTH, D Oldbaldguy, phasephantomphixer, LSP_K2 and 1 other

Dave Williams
Brake dust tends to stain the wheels pretty quickly. Marcel111
Ol' Scrapiron
A variety of Phantoms I have photographed... you can decide if anything is specific to the D model. Hope this will help (but it looks like image in @D Bellis post above should solve your dilemma) F-4S 153851 Palm Springs Air Museum - F-4S 157307 Udvar-Hazy I realize these shots don't capture what is happening on the door side of the wheel... worse yet, I've discovered my pics of the other 18 Phantoms I have photographed don't even capture details of the main gear. Lots of nose gear pics but the main gear just never got the attention. Marcel111

D Bellis
The OP's question pertains only to the orientation of the early-build Phantom IIs (F-4B, F4H-1 and F-4N) main wheels that were a completely different design and narrower in width from those used on all of the other Phantom II versions. Please note the differences as captured by Reskit: US Navy F-4B/N - https://reskit-models.com/scale-plastic-model-kits?product_id=5265 US Navy F-4J/S - https://reskit-models.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=5267 USAF F-4C/D/E/F - https://reskit-models.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=5266 HTH, D Edited December 12, 2023 by D Bellis

Yes. But that was not the OP's question. The OP's question concerned the orientation of the wheel rim parts that are attached to the leg side: On 12/9/2023 at 11:23 AM, Marcel111 said: I have the Reskit wheels but can’t figure out what is up or down, forward or back. Which has been answered with a reasonable degree of certainty. HTH, D Marcel111
