Tomcat14
Hey guys , Hope you all had a productive modeling weekend. I have been moving right along with the B-29 "Enola Gay" build and today have got her in a black base coat of paint and then in the shiny silver bare metal paint. After polishing the scratches out of the plastic as best I could I put a black base coat of AK's Primer Micro-filler and then a glossy coat of Model Masters Gloss black thinned and added a couple of drops of clear gloss to it which gave a nice glossy smooth finish. Then I used some old school Floquil Bright Silver paint thinned as well and put on a couple of coats on and it came out great other than there being some dust bunnies that slipped through my prepping work. I am going to let this sit and dry for at least 3 or 4 days until I decide to touch it again cause I want the paint to be fully cured before I start putting Decals and the rest of the parts on her. The pictures I took don't really do her justice and in real life she is truly shinny, but the camera phone could not handle the light reflecting off her. Oh well enjoy for now until another update hopefully with decals on. Chris Joel_W, Girlscanplay2 and Shaka HI

Tomcat14
Thanks Ron, Mark and Kev. Yeah Ron it is pretty good size but nothing like the beast of Monograms kit. You need some serious real estate to display that model. Chris. LSP_K2

I think you got lucky that the Floquil didn't attack the MM, but what I see, looks real nice.
Joel_W
Chris, impressive even in 1/72 scale for sure. the NMF looks great. Are you planning on doing any of the panels to help break up those huge expanses of wings and fuselage? Joel

Kevin, Why would the floquil which I believe is lacquer based attack the MM base coat which is enamel based? a light mist coat would prevent that from happening. I shoot Alcads all the time and for now I still use their Gloss Black which is enamel based, and never had a problem. other then it taking forever to dry and cure. Joel Because Floquil has a very strong solvent that will frequently attack enamels or acrylics. If it works for you though, that's great.
Tomcat14
Hey Typhoonattack, So far I have been lucky and have not had any bad reactions from the floquil paint since putting it on yesterday. I will keep your advice in mind though. Chris. LSP_K2
LSP_K2
Hey Typhoonattack, So far I have been lucky and have not had any bad reactions from the floquil paint since putting it on yesterday. I will keep your advice in mind though. Chris. Well, it wasn't meant as advice so much, as it was a caution. What you've accomplished so far, looks great, so there's probably no cause for concern. Kev, Thanks for that heads up. I haven't used any Floquil paints since the 70s. Joel LSP_K2
