mozart
Glad to see another masking convert Shaka. Like most things in life, the more you do it, the better and more confident you get! Well done chum. Max Shaka HI
dennismcc
I always start from the inside otherwise you get a sandwich effect with two colours showing at the edge, I made that mistake on a P-39, I painted a white circle then the blue. dmthamade
Masking the insignias do get great results. Are the colors for the roundels mixes or out of the bottle? Don
Shaka HI
If you're asking me...they're custom mixes using the kit's and after-market decals I had as reference. dmthamade
Shaka HI
All markings are complete and I'll finish the lettering this weekend. I'm pretty happy how the lower roundels came out.
dmthamade
That looks really great!! You guys are really convincing me on painting on markings. Are you going to do any weathering or will it be a clean build? Don
Shaka HI
I will weather it..even if it means that I will ruin it.
mozart
I will weather it..even if it means that I will ruin it. You won't ruin it Shaka, just take it gently, one step at a time. The simplest and safest way to apply grime is Flory's wash, it's very forgiving and can be taken off completely if you don't like it but there are of course many other more complex methods. Shaka HI
Thanks Max! "It's only plastic after all." Painting with masking is finished. There's some really minor touch ups required, but I'm pretty stoked with how things turned out. Photo was taken with my "new" lens...(those walkway lines look thicker than they should, bummer). BloorwestSiR
Looks great Shaka. I think you've got the hang of it with the masks now. Carl Shaka HI
dennismcc
That looks grand, painted on markings look so much better than decals, well better than I can put decals on that is, some people are a real whizz with them. ClumsyDude
Looks terrific Shaka. How much weathering are you planning to go for? Cheers Jim Edited April 30, 2016 by ClumsyDude
Shaka HI
Some chipping, oil stains, exhaust/gun stains...Oil filtering? I've post shaded the green and dark earth -- difficult to see with the gloss coat. I'm getting the hang of glossing with Future. I'll let this cure for a few days and apply the decals. dmthamade
Shaka HI
While waiting for the Future to cure..I decided to prep a test model -- Eduard's 1/48 Spitfire that I've lost complete interest since moving up a scale. Chipping done with sponge dipped in Aluminum paint..it looks to even, but I spent all of 30 seconds do in it. I think it still looks fairly convincing even close up, but it's not like I have anything to compare it with.... Next will be my experiment with washes and exhaust/gun stains before committing to the Revell.
