BloorwestSiR
Thanks John, I finished the wash on the upper hull and started on the sides. What a difference compared to the lower hull which I haven't started on yet. Girlscanplay2, Lars Befring and jgrease
LSP_Paul
Very Nice Carl, the wash really makes the detail pop on this one. Keep up the great work Paul

BloorwestSiR
Thanks Paul and Mark. I finished the wash and weathering on the lower hull and my Shapeways parts finally arrived. So I have the cockpit, turret windows, laser guns, and radar dish. These are the first 3D printed parts I've used before so I hope it works out. One thing I noticed is that Shapeways packs everything really securely but they were a little zealous in the use of bubble wrap. They wrapped them so tightly that a couple parts were warped. I straightened them out as best I could. Here's a comparison of the kit cockpit and the 3D one. I'm going to prime the parts and then start the final assembly. As a tease, I got my 1/72 one out of storage and did a size comparison: This might the build pile sooner than I expected... BloorwestSiR
Thanks Teresa! It was time for the part I was dreading: doing the exhaust stains on the back of the upper hull. I used a very thinned mix of Tamiya NATO black and sprayed it on using light, thin passes. I don't think it's as intense as it maybe should be but I'm happy with the results and don't want to push my luck. I had to do a bit of touch up as one of the exhaust stains wasn't lined up right. Here's the 3D cockpit with a coat of paint on it. The details really come out now and I gave it a dry brush to bring them out further. dpastern
BloorwestSiR
Now another quandry. The 3D cockpit and turret windows are frames only and "glass free". This matches the filming miniatures but looks a bit...odd. Here's a comparison between the kit one and the 3D version. What do you folks think? dodgem37
Who did that monster Falcon and where can I get one? Thank you. Sincerely, Mark
Johnnycrash
Who did that monster Falcon and where can I get one? Fine Molds. eBay ($600.00+) Or... Wait for the Revell re-release coming soon ($200.00). See 1/72 Revell Star Wars Millennium Falcon (Ex Fine Mold kit) As for the wash..."Oooh look at me. I spilled thinned paint all over my finished model, now it looks better". Sure it does.
BloorwestSiR
As for the wash..."Oooh look at me. I spilled thinned paint all over my finished model, now it looks better". Sure it does. Hey, I'll have you know that I carefully spilled that thinned paint on a partly finished model so it could only look better. As for weathering, I usually do it so lightly that my shot down, rusting hulks are spotless. Carl Edited November 28, 2015 by BloorwestSiR
BloorwestSiR
Back to the build, I installed the cockpit into the 3D frame after figuring that the clear one was going to be a PITA to mask. I then sawed off the rear bulkhead off the kit cockpit and attached it to the cockpit tube/arm.
BloorwestSiR
I then added the PE grilled to the exhaust vents on the rear hull. Then it was time for final assembly. I added the turrets, radar dish and the assembled cockpit to the hull. Then I carefully spilled some more thinned paint on the model and finished it off. So I guess the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy is now done. Hopefully it lasts longer than my last finished build.
