Dragon P-51D-5

Recommended Posts

OK!

Since I have nothing better to do, with only five freshly started 48th Bf 109B-1/C/F-0/G-12/Z, a 48th Ju 388, a 32nd Bf 109B-2 and the Silver Wings Hart and various other projects going on, I might as well join this too

With this, I hear, excellent little kit straight OOB

This is what I'm going to do, a rather boring plain green/grey P-51D-5...

Quick test...looks kinda like a Mustang to me.

Cockpit first up. I think I've read somewhere that the cockpit is just wrong, and now I believe it. Only thing I changed was moving the seat further back.

And a few hours later...

Fuselage glued.

Thanks

Lovely weather today. A couple of layers of Mr Surfacer-type filler sprayed.

Sanded smooth. Most rivets are by now quite subtle.

Windscreen fit was really awful, but it ended up ok. Until the CA gives up.

Very nice, Anders! It must be nice to be able to do some modelling outside - if I tried that now in South Central Texas (I live near San Antonio), the plastic would melt (along with me). And insanely fast modelling - now hurry up and finish it so you can get back to your B.4 Hart! :)

Regards,

Jason

Thanks all, thanks for looking.

Ok. 24 hrs later. My first attempt ever at pre-shading. Didn't go very well, at least not what I had in mind... But I'm happy with it, I didn't just leave it unpainted :)

Next question: "16", white or yellow...should be yellow, but I'm not sure..painting white IS easier..... :hmmm:

@Jason

I've removed and cut the B4 landing gear, now I just have to drill new different angled holes in the fuselage and reattach it. Soon. I promise. Yep. Soon. B)

Cheers,

Anders

Busy day. Made masks for "16" and "B" and sprayed them both white.

The decals were the thickest I've ever encountered from Flying Colors printed by Cartograf...not good.

Next was a clear coat. This plane almost made its last flight today...why the "frosting" :help: Is it me drooling?

DSCN6198.jpg

Grabbed the good old paintbrush and covered it all with Humbrol Satin Cote which removed most of the white.

This is as far as it gets for now. Have a new prop and wheels on order.

Cheers

Perhaps because you painted the B and 16 white instead of yellow..? :hmmm:

Looks great, not boring at all!

Hehe yeah, probably :) Thanks.

Found some info

Profile_Mary_Ann.jpg

It was interned and put into service Jul 30 1945 as the third swedish Mustang. First two were P-51B-7.

April 16 1946 it made a ground collision with a Sk 15/Klemm 35D and ended its days as an instruction object at F16 Uppsala.

Almost there....almost... Got some Quickboost propeller blades designed to fit the Trumpeter Mustang but the fit was excellent.

And the only wheels Hannants had in stock were the True Details offerings and they look good to me.

Was out of yellow and can't find my Humbrol-box?

A few more details left to take care of.
