perry
What amazes me is how well it's survived! Anyone know where it was recovered from? Thanks for posting!
Troy Molitor
The Fw-190 is being left in the state of how it was found. Basically, it will not be preserved but left "as is" Where is. The elements have really taken a toll of the inside structure. The airframe wouldn't be economical to restore to airworthiness. Basically the preservation group will stop the aluminum oxidation and try and slow the natural corrosion process down to a trickle by cleaning the aircraft and coating it with sealant that keeps the oxidation from further reducing the aluminum to dust. I believe the aircraft will go on display at the old Herdla airbase. (I read this recently in Classic Wings down-under magazine) Kind regards, Troy

gaz262
From whence was this recovered? This was on the ARC site.....hope it helps; Here is a series (extensive) on the recovery of a Luffwaffe wreck. The pilot survived ditching his fighter in the sea off Bergen in Norway on 15 December 1943. It was recovered on November 2nd 2006! The Fw 190 was one of the best German fighters ever built. This wreck is in pretty good condition! Great pictures of the recovery operation.
Erwin
Amazing that you can still see the markings after all this time in the water.
