Youngtiger1
The "Green Demons" (353rd TFS) were one of the Squadrons assigned to the 354th TFW at Myrtle Beach SC.If your friend was assigned in the 1975 to 1977 time period it is quite possible that he and I met. Especially if he was deployed to Howard AFB in the Canal Zone during one of our TDYs there. During our TDY we were the air defence force for the USA in the Canal Zone with four A-7Ds. Not bad for a bunch of "SLUFs". Barry From what I remember he was flying with the Green Demons right when they transition to the A-10. If that is the time frame you were with the Green Demons than it might be possilbe that you might have worked with him. Do you remember a name Brian Shul? He was one of the pilots that was shot down in Vietnam and was burn severally and the doctors told him "no more flying", BUT that not were his story ended. He proved them all wrong and came back to active duty as PR/CR and flew the A-7D, A-10A, F-5. He also flew the SR-71 by passing the astronauts physical without any weavers. Your build will be a very helpful guide to my next project. I want to build him the A-7D with Green Demons marking because that was one his favorite fighter jet. Mike I was with the 354th when we received the first A-10s. In fact I was a part of the accident investigation into the crash of one of the first two we received. I do not remember Brian by name but I know exactly who you are talking about and remember handling the aircraft he was flying several different times. His story was well known among members of the 354th. Sounds like he went on to have a great flying career. Wait, it just struck me where I have read his name recently on the SR-71 Book, Sled Driver. Let me know if I can be of any help when you start your build. Please say hello to Brian from a former member of the 354th AMS. Barry

I did not know the wheels on both A-7D/E were different. I guess now I know. I will sure to say hi to Brian from you. In fact, I will email me a link to this build as well. You are correct about the book Sled Driver. He wrote that and the Untouchables. The Untouchables is about his mission over Libya. You can check out his website called www.sleddriver.com for more information if you like. Also, thank you for you kind offer my A-7 build. A quick question about the extra detail on the Pylon, MER, and other places, are they from Eduard PE set? Keep up the good work!! Mike

I will check out his site. The A-7D and the A-7E wheels were very different. The brake stack is very visible through the wheel on the A-7D. I spent several hours filing them out with a tapered diamond file but the result was worth it. The details on the Pylons and MER are scratch built with the exception of the main beam on the MER and it is from Dave's Meteor Kit. The Pylon Sway Brace hardware is from Scale Hardware as is all other bolts, nuts and rivets; really great detail items highly recommended. I am using some Edurad's PE; mostly on the Speed Brake and the Avionics Bays and a few other pieces here and there thus far. I considered Eduard's cockpit set but the Aires Cockpit was too nice to pass up. The Aires Wheel Wells also eliminated the need for the Eduard's PE in those areas as well. I included a pic of the L/H Avionics Bay, Here the Eduard's PE is really great. I still have to do the wiring and plumbing. Barry
