alaninaustria Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 As the title says, is there a modern source for these older classic paints? I still have a little of a few colors, and wouldnt mind getting a resupply if they are still available and in production? Any update appreciated! Cheers Alan BiggTim 1
Paul2660 Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 I believe they are long gone. Testors supposedly is back in the paint business but I have not seen anything. I would look at the AK extreme metals, excellent paint. Or Alclad. Mr Paint MRP also has some metal colors however I have not tried them. Paul BiggTim 1
scvrobeson Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 They're sadly gone. Testors shut down Model Master a few years back. I really miss their Burnt Iron, nobody else has a color that matches it. Matt BiggTim 1
csavaglio Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 Yeah, model master has been discontinued. Testors brand stuff... Like the little square bottles and some clears, are still around. I agree, it's a bummer... Burnt iron, their brass, chrome silver, and they had a nice metallic grey.. I use chrome and brass to brush pretty often. BiggTim 1
denders Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 I've taken a liking to MRP lacquer. So far, I don't have any quibbles about the colors. What I've really fallen for is the fact that they come pre-thinned, I pour it into the airbrush, paint, pour the remaining back into the bottle, and clean it up. They do seem on the expensive side but I'm not over preparing the amount of paint if I were to thin it myself. It's too thinned for brush painting though. Gazzas 1
LSP_K2 Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 As much as I miss the old MM metalizers, I find that Alclad is better in many ways anyway. CRAZY IVAN5 1
csavaglio Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 I've been using alclad most of the time for at least 15 years, but it's not good for brushing.. If I need to pick out bright silver or brass bolt heads, etc, the coverage and ease with a brush of the MM has been the best I've found, but I'm all ears for other stuff out there. Most stuff I've found that can be brushed has flake way too big to be convincing in scale LSP_K2 1
