Yeah, it has retractable landing gear and all of the great toylike features that we all loved as a kid! And ooohhh!!! I can even enter a contest! I can build the new Apollo moonship!!!!!

    Is this great, or what?

I'll be building this kit without my favorite model buddy, Lucy Kitty, aka Sweet Lucy, aka Lucyfur. The best modeling kitty ever, she was either sitting on my shoulder or on the table watching quietly while I built.  I'll be building this one in her kitty memory.

Working on that purchase. Quinta cockpit set as well. Just bought the Windsock Triplane books to try and figure this think out. As I stated earlier, the learning curve for me will be rather steep!

Well, I have had this kit in the stash for ages...no AM to correct a lot of the errors.  But there is some light at the end of the tunnel.

I have found assorted AM to help me on my journey:

    Seatbelts (HGW)
Two bladed wooden prop (LF Models)
    Lewis Gun (Gas Patch)
    Vickers Gun (Gas Patch)

What else?  Well, I'd love to see some additional decals but there don't seem to be any so I may have to kludge my own up using the Pheon set as a template.

And a 1/24 RFC pilot.  Doesn't seem to be anything out there.

I plan to use the WNW plans to scratch build a more accurate interior (mainly the seat).

    Then we'll see.

Despite the errors, I think the kit has potential.

    Cheers,

If you want a 1/24 Fokker Triplane the very best one is the Meng kitset. Their 1/32 version is very good as well, but not quite as good as their 1/24 (which I consider the best Dr.I model in any scale).

The Merit 1/24 Fokker Triplane kitset, by comparison, is very basic and inaccurate.

I have both...haven't really taken a hard look at the SPAD (yet) but I will.  As others have noted, there could be 3D printed stuff coming at some point.

Took me forever to find a two-bladed prop.

Don't waste your money on the Merit Spad XIII. The shape is all wrong in the nose in particular. If you want a Spad larger than 1/32, the old Revell 1/28 is a much better representation.

    Hi All

I completed this at the end of last year.

This was my first CSM kit, and I found it excellent. Compared to Wingnut Wings, I think the mold is a little less sharp, but the reproduction of the internal structure is better than WNW. The fitting is perfect, although assembly is somewhat difficult due to the delicacy of the parts. The instructions are also very clear.

The decals are based on the Italian top ace Francesco Baracca, which CSM sells separately. The horse is famous as it became the Ferrari emblem.

This is my first time building a Nieuport, and I found I like the lightweight look.

I hope you all enjoy it too.

    Hi all
Here my 1/32 A-20G. It's a good kit, easy to build which need details in some area (bomb bay, cockpit). I used Zotz decal for nose art and mission markings. I used paint mask for natinal markind, indivifual letter, serial number and squadron marking. Hope you like it.

TimW reacted to airscale in 1/32 Boulton Paul Defiant - new kit design?
    Hi everyone

I haven't been making models for about a month... but I have been modelmaking

It has always been a little dream of mine to use airscale to make my own kit and take a tiny weeny bit of the power of what gets released and when from the big boys..

So, I started making my first kit in 3D - something I toyed with in 1/18 and I think is an interesting subject - the Defiant Mk1. Before I go any further I will justv say that this is a project that I thought might be interesting to share - I have no idea of what I am doing and there are some significant practical challenges to overcome on the way, not least of which are:

Transparencies - I want these to be Injection moulded - If I can find clear parts on a toy in the pound shop, I must be able to get something made - if that fails then maybe resin but that is very labour intensive, failing that maybe 3D has advanced enough, and as a last resort vacforms

Print dimensional accuracy - I have faces that are within a micron of each other on screen, but when printed have quite a bit of deviation - I expect this is a lot to do with the orientation & support placement, but for detailed surfaces you are kind of pushed into limited options

Print time - All the parts for now are printed at the lowest, but fastest quality @ 60 micron layers, I usually print in 22 microns for my AM parts - but this speeds up the prints - even then, on 60 microns it takes about 9 hours to do the wing parts so each kit will take days to print at the proper resolution

I think it's worth a shot, but for now can't say if, or when it might be available, or how much it would be..

Anyways, enough of the negative waves man, let's have a look at progress so far - this is the Mk1 but I also have a MkII nose and prop..

..the kit currently breaks down like this..

..and the first prototype prints - I primed and painted it because I wanted to see how the surface detail held up - should have painted it a lighter colour though..

So, I am quite pleased with how some of the parts came out, others clearly need work.. thats why it is here as a WIP as I want you to come on the journey with me. I also want to get some feedback along the way and although I will do my best, this won't be a Tamiya quality kit so I hope if it ever does come out you can help me not get it rubbished by the critics

next up will be the gear bays, then surface detailing the wings & fillets and unlike every other model I have ever made, last of all will be the cockpit. Oh and by the way and drawings or reference pics are always welcome - just PM me

GREAT BUILD!  I love the personal connection and display items to boot!

Yeah the John Wayne tool…I had one, MREs were still kinda new when I commissioned and the JW tools were still around.  These days they are as foreign as a rotary phone to Gen Z or using the DSN line to call the national observatory to get the time for a hack at the ready room brief.  Watching Gen Z try to work a rotary phone on the YouTubes is stoopid funny!

    Calling her complete.

Front and center on the left is a bit of family lore. My mom had mailed my dad a German Chocolate cake for his birthday. By the time it had arrived in the military post, the box was soaked in diesel fuel, as was half the cake. He and his crew ate it and just cut around the diesel soaked bits. Cool bit is he was very specific in his guidance, telling me it was a 5”x9” loaf and the type of box. My mom even texted me the recipe for it she’s kept for almost 60 years🙂

Next up are the few bits of his that I’ll put on display with the model. First his CIB. Then a p38 attached to a grenade ring, (gotta be able to open your C-Rats!) Last bit is his standard issue knife. Remember the photo a few pages back of his track on its side? When it rolled, he got crushed all the stuff inside. The sheet of plywood they’d just laid down over everything saved him, but essentially landed on the knife (on his belt, behind him). If you look closely, the knife is lumbar shaped. It and the weight of everything broke his back. On the plus side, it got him out in the middle of the Battle of Dak To. Crazy story - and one of my most prized possessions!

    And in the display cabinet

    Thanks for following along!

    Booger,
In this day and age there’s something about this model that smells of grooming…

I think the weathering and dirt are spot on!  The loose goodies are quite nice as well the boots and brain bucket specifically.

Wrapping up, have a few bits left to go before this beast goes into the display cabinet.

check out the lovely detail on the Jason studio helmet! 3D printing at its finest. Weathering makes me the detail painter I am NOT 🙂

How about the jungle boots, or the M16

Have been experimenting with razor wire. How’s this look to everyone?

Essentially need to paint the exhaust stack, add the lights and the razor wire. Maybe the antenna. Otherwise she’s pretty done. Fun build thus far.
next pics should be her completed!

Some more pics.  This is not a small kit.  The final challenge (I'm sure among many) will be how to display it--on the kit stand or try and make an "at sea" base with that foam board stuff you can get at Home Depot and other items.  Stay tuned!
