Great paintwork Cheers Dennis

Thanks Max but the only stuff that I have "in stock" is Micro Kristal Klear or Formula 560, I should imagine that they are all PVA based anyway. Give that man a coconut, gun heating pipes they are, how I missed that I don't know, and Klear it will be. Cheers Dennis

Some slight roadblocks on the way to getting paint on, first of all I realised that the two covers inboard of the flaps had gone missing so I had to make some up, luckily with the Vb Trop sitting on my shelf I had something to use as a template. Then I remembered the gun camera hole in the port wing, it's pretty clear on a photo of Don Gentile standing next to his aircraft. Then I was fitting together the radiators to the bottom of the wings and realised that the oil cooler internals were PE parts on the fret with the seat belts on which I did not use, I found them in my spares box and with a sigh of relief I painted them. Then I cracked a joint on the side of the nose panel. Then I remembered the underwing landing lights, I had read somewhere that the kit parts only work in the extended position so I will have to make up some blank panels. I had also forgot to dip the clear parts in Johnsons Klear as is my normal practice. I also started to puzzle over the armoured glass panel, trying to think up which is the best adhesive to fix it onto the forward windscreen, Formula 360 or Krystal Klear were my first thoughts, I remember a debate on this ages ago on Britmodeller but could not remember what the outcome was, so any suggestions will be gratefully received. Missing panels replaced with bodged plastic sheet replacements PE fret with oil cooler inserts painted Gun camera position in port wing root Landing lights, it would have been easier to fill in the panel before assembling the wings unless you want the lights in the extended position. And the clear parts, showing the separate armoured glass And I cannot find where these go, parts D33, will check the instructions again Cheers Dennis

Tamiya Spitfire Mk.XVIe, First Spitfire build for me.
dennismcc replied to dmthamade's topic in Edgar Brooks Spitfire Tribute
Great to see one of these being built, I have one in the stash but am working my way up to it. Cheers Dennis -
It's a good idea, I've always disliked just blobbing glue on things, I like a positive fit if possible, glad you are enjoying the build, I certainly am Cheers Dennis

Beautiful workmanship, I will have to sit back and read this one again Cheers Dennis

That looks far too real, fantastic, just fantastic Cheers Dennis -
Looking at the photo I just posted the strut that I made up looked too big so I have made a new one and I am happier with it, while the CA is setting I decided to tackle the tail planes, for this I use fuse wire so that I get a positive fit which also allows me to pose them deflected, drill two holes in each, then I just glue in some fuse wire and connect them up. Cheers Dennis .

Thanks Peter, the weather here at the moment is very overcast and raining, it's hardly got light today so I have been in the study most of the day, so progress is good Thanks Andy, I'm trying not to get distracted at the point I want to at least get the undersides painted this week Cheers Dennis

Hi Harvey, yes it is a T shape, you can see it here, my old Revell Spitfire Mk II got it right. http://spitfiresite.com/2010/07/anatomy-of-spitfire-cockpit.html/07es09_007 and here http://spitfiresite.com/2010/04/the-sutton-harness-on-the-spitfire.html Cheers Dennis

Thank you Loic, I am really looking forward to getting some paint on this one as well. However I noticed a slight oversight that Hobbyboss has made in the cockpit area, there should be a strut between the two rear cockpit frames, so out with some plastic strip and I quickly bodged one up. Cheers Dennis

Nice one Iain Cheers Dennis -
Hopefully paint in the next couple of days, just polishing up some of the seams at the moment, then I can crack open the Vb Trop. Cheers Dennis

What a nice selection of subjects and beautifully done as well. Cheers Dennis

Wow Hobbyboss will not know what's hit them, nice choice Andy it just about mirrors my build right down to the AM and masks. Cheers Dennis
-
This one will be followed closely as I would love to build mine but am slightly afraid of it ! Cheers Dennis

Only one, but it is a beauty, the paint work is fantastic. Cheers Dennis

Sanding and polishing, not too bad on this kit at all, wing roots. A thin sliver of plastic card with some CA, though in hindsight it could have been filled with Mr Surfacer. Just a dab of Mr Surfacer here. This one worked well as there are panel lines on the outside of the seam, though I will not know how good it is until it sees some paint I'm not sure about this one as at first I assumed that there was a panel line here on the real thing but now I'm not so sure, will have to investigate further And the first mistake (that I have spotted), I assumed that the semi holes on the inside of the wing were for the bomb carrier so I left them alone, but the two here are for the air inlet, luckily I can still see them and can drill them out no problem. Cheers Dennis
