BarracudaCast | BR32171 Bf 109G/K Prop and Spinner Alignment Jig

The questions I need answered concerns the centering jig. There is a info tag molded on the bottom edge of the prop spinner but there is no index notch in the jig. The spinner can be forced in but then the spinner is not centered. I filed off this tag on the spinner but it seems a waste of Barracudas time to mold this tag only to have you remove it. Question has anyone else noticed this or found a way to correct this? I also found that the drill size indicated to be used is the wrong size, too big, you can't use the Revell or Hasegawa prop shafts. Otherwise the spinner is detailed very nice. I bought 2 sets of props, but only 1 of the jigs. Any one else have a different finding or am I way off base. Any opinions or experience in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

they are just out and I havent seen a review (that I remember) where someone actually uses the jig

my suggestion would be to email Roy direct - my experiences with him in this regard have been first class

i'd be interested in what he says too...

Kagemusha and Kev,

Thanks for that, but as it would be, I already seen both articles. There doesn't seem to be a problem in either article. It just may be that I didn't understand the instructions or screwed the pooch as it were. I have no problem with the blade jig but I, for one, think there is a problem with the spinner centering  and the callouts in the instructions. Thanks for the help though, I appreciate any help I get.

Mike,

I just placed my spinner in the cutout, and the hole was centered. Sorry to learn of your difficulty. My spinner fit just fine without modification, so you might email Roy about this. In the meantime, the Revell shaft for the spinner has two diameters, a thicker short length as it protrudes from the fuselage and the thinner diameter length after that. I didn't use the Barracuda directions for drilling the hole, I just eyeballed it.

Cheers, Tom

Tom,

Thank you for your information and I like your build. A question if I may. Does your spinner have 2 info tags on it?  They are separate by a space with the bottom tag protruding on the bottom edge of the spinner. These are on the real spinner probably either info or balancing items. Therefore when you insert the spinner into the jig there appears to be a space where this is and the rest of the spinner is against the jig. Thanks for your help.

I assume data placards. No real need to try to balance the small mass of the spinner itself.

Kevin,

I didn't know what else to call them.

Doug N,

In the  'What's New' update on LSP for July 23rd   Barracuda announces a slew a new products for the Revell 109 G-6 kit. If you will scroll down to the last picture in the article, it  is of 2 prop spinners with blades. In the bottom spinner you can see the 2 raise tags. You can also see in the centering jig there is no cut out to accept this raised area. In the jig and spinner I have this creates a forced fit and the spinner then appears not to be centered.  And while pictures don't lie you will notice that no where in this update is the spinner mounted in the centering jig. Thanks for asking for pictures.

Mike,

I believe I know what you mean, and there's enough play in the jig that the spinner fits with the protrusions yet can still be centered. Hope this helps, and thanks for checking in on my build!

Hi Tom,

Thanks , It seems I just seen that the spinner was not lined up evenly around the centering jig and therefore would throw the centering hole off. I guess I thought that would be contrary to having a hole and a defined area to put the spinner in. I think I should have just but a notch in the jig and put that tag in that notch and drilled a hole in the spinner base. Thanks again

Tom,

Thanks again, for sharing your experience with the centering jig. It was nice to hear that someone else at least used and noticed what I perceived to be a problem. Modeling skills needed to be applied which I didn't do. Please continue with your build. I'm interested in how you will finish the camo.
