ColinR Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 Thanks for that , I've just ordered one to replace the Eurofighter Typhoon which is looking increasingly liek a no show for xmas .. It'll be inresting to see if my extras inc a BB F-14D pit/Wolfpack airframe conversion set fit the Trumpter Cat , if nothing else it'll be nice not to have spend 3 weeks re-scribing the kit .. having done 3 Tamiya F-14's , I've had enough of that little exercise! The lack of weapons is a blow , but i've for a LOT of munitions after the Academy F-18's of a few years back ... Lots hope it beats Santas sled here before Xmas!
thierry laurent Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 And an addendum regarding the Rhino: I checked the weapon sprues parts yesterday evening and made some conclusions: - they gave (again) MER and TER but no CVER. Converting Academy VER or waiting for aftermarket will be necessary. However, if you use the largest weapons such as the JSOW, it is not an issue. - they don't gave the LAU127 rails nor the dual launchers for Amraams and the missiles are the large wings/fins AIM-120B rather the currently common mark C. This prevents a normal BVR A2A configuration... - I'm still looking for the NAVFLIR pylon... This is really the worst issue regarding the warload as such pod seems to be always used in war ops... Note that I prefer errors in load options rather than in airframe shapes...

I hope I'm not disappointed! Can anyone tell me if the E/F hornets have the same ejection seat as the C/D? Yes, the F/A-18E/F use the SJU-17 NACES seat, which is also fitted to the F/A-18C and D. At the moment, the most accurate seats that are currently available are from Legend Productions. Set LF3212 includes 2 seats without belts and harnesses Set LF3213 includes 2 seats with belts and harnesses Both are available from Squadron
thierry laurent Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 An additional question: I'm not fully sure but I'm wondering if the AGM-84H does not require a specific pod? If I'm right, another element is missing!
DaveJ Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 One of each shipped today from Sprue Brothers to me.

phasephantomphixer Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 Not sure it was mentioned, but saw closeup shots from a new Tomcat owner over on ARC "jet modelling" forums.

It looks like Trumpeter molded a deep triangular depression for a Sparrow fin above the cheek mount. http://www.cybermodeler.com/hobby/kits/tru...204_parts03.jpg The real side of the SH is pretty flat. http://data3.primeportal.net/hangar/luc_co...31_15_of_66.jpg It looks like there is a slightly depressed area just above the station, but it doesn't look anything as deep as Trumpeter molded it. http://data.primeportal.net/hangar/tom_adk...43_11_of_17.JPG
thierry laurent Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 Thanks Dave, I've yet to assess more deeply the airframe. As I wrote previously, the list of discrepancies will be progressively built... Fortunately the one you mentioned is easy to correct! Firecaptain, keep in mind that even if things are evolving noticeably, China is not a democracy... This means that Chinese engineers haven't the possibility to travel easily, to get access to the web freely and to communicate without constraints/control with external people. Moreover, there are not a lot of SuperHornet exhibitions in China... I think they probably do their best with the means they have. Regarding external support, it seems that the wind is turning but as the kits we see now have probably been designed more or less two years ago, I guess we'll still get some Trumpy kits with stupid errors...

thierry laurent Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 Courtesy of the Navy, this drawing will show you what you can use on the Rhino... Note that for some loads, this is theoretical to say the least (agm-45 for instance...)!
jbrundt Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 thierry laurent said: this is theoretical to say the least (agm-45 for instance...)! Not theoretical.....at one time the F-18E/F carried all these weapons. The plane was cleared thru flight test by actually carrying the noted weapons even though it may not have flown them in combat.
