Tony T
There seems to be a growing concensus "in the crystal ball department" that Revell are offloading the Ju 88 A-4 kit with a view towards discontinuing it. Is this a pre-cursor to a Ju 88 C-6 release ? Or is the market simply maxed-out ? Anyone know what's happening ? Tony
Chek
Not being a Luftwaffe fan per se, I do have an interest in adversaries. Given that rightly or wrongly I'd consider the Ju 88 as roughly equivalent to the DH Mosquito, should I lay in an A-4 as a Mosquito BIV competitor, or await the modernised release? Iain
Don't think it's anything more than just Revell's usual cycle of production runs (typically 2 - 3 years?) - and, yes, looks like the discounts are 'end of run'. I won't say how much (little) I paid at Telford - but have seen them around the £25 mark here in UK of late which is an absolute bargain! Check - yes - if you want an A4 I'd get one now - maybe a few years before the next release/run. It's one of the next for me to write up a review for as we've not covered that one yet. Wonderland in Edinburgh still have some (and other Revell kits in the sale). EDIT Of course having said all that - Revell will announce a Night Fighter version Iain
stevegallacci
I'm more wondering which version they will do next? I would WAG that it would be a 'C. I grabbed a pile of 'A-1s when they first came out, and as I was going to "do things" with them, the short wing and early engine didn't matter. So only got a couple 'A-4s. In the the end, I'll likely actually finish only one as a 'A-1, perhaps another as an 'A-5, an 'A-4 Mistel, and the rest are likely to be various 'G and 'H Frankensteins, and maybe a '388. Chek
Of course having said all that - Revell will announce a Night Fighter version Iain Nowt wrong with that - as a fighter adversary for the Mosquito FBs or NFs would fit in with my general scheme of things. Plus, I always liked Len Deighton's accounts of the night fighter missions in his novel Bomber. Though I've never worked out what variant of Ju 88 his Luftwaffe pilot is flying which he (the pilot) calls Richards. Only that they carry unseemly antlers. LSP_Kevin
Given that things have really slacked off since HobbyCo re-acquired RoG a couple of years back, and that the team that brought us the original Ju 88 no longer exists, I'm wondering if we'll see much new 1/32 stuff from Revell at all. Chek
Ju88R? Thanks - yes I'd guessed that part, but they seem to carry either (excuse my ignorance) the large array as commonly seen on He 219s or the smaller cluster with the shorter dipoles. I appreciate your input though, or I'd never have discovered that Hasegawa do an R-2 with the larger array. Hardcore
Do you think Len Deighton got it right? I note the novel was written in 1970... Perhaps he used the captured Ju88R at Hendon as model http://plane-crazy.k-hosting.co.uk/Aircraft/WW2-Planes/Ju88/ju88.htm
LSP_K2
Another A-4 has been on my "to get list" for a while now, had one but sold it, so perhaps sometime soon I can grab one.

D Bellis
Cool, and thanks. In a month or or two, $50 I can do,... how poetic. The kit is $51 every day there: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDSUC&P=W If it really is discontinued, it will likely end up on their Inventory Reduction page for somewhere around 50% off of MSRP. MSRP being $63 means that,if discontinued, and listed as an Inventory Reduction item, then the clearance price will be somewhere around $31.50. I have an Africa scheme in mind. I did it in 1:48 (Pro Modeler kit), and it came out looking pretty spiffy, and I've been wanting to do it in 1:32 ever since.
