Tamiya Sturmgeschutze IIIG with Ostketten

Hi everyone,

      A while ago I started on this Tamiya StuG.  I wanted to try a few things without following any one historical picture.  The first thing I did was to remove the starboard fender.  Then I added the necessary structures to  fill up the vacated space.

I also replaced the rather chunky two-piece barrel with a slender Dragon one-piece barrel.

The first paint scheme was a failure so I ended up stripping the paint and re-doing it.

The initial winter whitewash:

Mud will require three layers...  dry, damp, and wet.  The first two are in textured acrylics I made with this formula:

There is also two layers of mud on the Ostketten.

I also did some minor chipping:

Stug Life !

Is shaping up :) Those older Tammy kits still come together fine .

If you ever venture near Youtube checkout Panzermeister36 . Interesting guy , he's all about oil paint weathering , which I've mixed feelings about , but he is also a complete Stug nut , and has down quite a few build logs.

Thank you Womble!  I've watched quite a few of his videos.  I like oils myself...   they have great blending qualities.

@Gazzas

  I used to think oil dot washes were the last word in colour modulation , and they still have a place , however for me it's not the only show in town, I found the trouble with always using the same techniques is .....all your models can look the same and you never learn anything new. He was right though about using oil paint and not pre made "product" , something Nightshift ( Martin Kovacs) has recently cottoned onto :)

Without wishing to be rude towards Tony Greenland , but his techniques of chalks, pastels and pencils also have a place, but again are not the last word to me anymore  , and most of his work looks very samey to the point I feel I could pick it out of a line up .

Anyhoo , without wishing to hijack your thread, I have never built a 1/35 Stug .....however my friend has one in 1:1 scale .....and also a Marder III.

Panzerwomble

Any chance of getting more pics of that Stug III G? I am working on a conversion of one in 1/16 and those are some of the clearest, detailed pics I have seen. Just the exteriior, Im not insane enough to try an interior as well. Thanks!
