LSP_Kevin
That is one awe-inspiring build Dave! I l love the Whirlwind, but have only ever built the Airfix kit as a kid. Can't wait to see it finished. Kev
Lancman
Dave RAF bombs were dark green but they were left outside on the dump, I used the Tamiya dark green on my Mossie ones and drybrushed other various greens to fade it a bit. Pity we are other sides of the pond it would sure look nice having a big Mossie and Whirlwind sitting side by side Graham

Ted Barrett
A wonderful scratchbuild Dave! I've always wanted to build the Whirlwind's follow-on, the Welkin, and your marvellous work and perseverence has provided all the inspiration one could ask for! I've saved your thread for easy access when the time comes to start cutting plastic. Ted
ironman1945
Thanks for the kind words everyone. Graham thank you for the info on the bomb colours, I suspected as much. I have also seen them with a (I believe) yellow strile added as well, do you have any info on this? Yes it would be nice to see your excellent Mossie and the Whirlwind together... who knows, maybe someday? The weathering begins toninght! ironman1945
Hi all. Well, its finally finished. At least, except for the wire antennas. I'll get to that someday. Anyway here she is, H-SF of No 137 Squadron; she was forced down in occupied territory 22 Jan 1943. dutik
ironman1945
Whoops! Just noticed that the port prop was loose in those photos. Props are removable for transport. Ah well the best laid plans. Here are a few more shots. dutik

ironman1945
Finally, I thought it would be interesting to show the comparison in size with some other 1/32 scale models I have. First alongside my Beaufighter.... shows how the designers tried to make the smallest airframe they could around the 2 engines. dutik
ironman1945
Next, alongside my old Revell bubble top Thunderbolt. Going to have to get to the Hasegawa version soon! What amazes me about this photo is how much it shows that the T-Bolt was an absolute beast. dutik
ironman1945
One last comparison, this time with my old Revell 109 F (a conversion to one of Gallands specially modified aircraft, this one with 2 wing mounted 20mm cannon). dutik
