I made a little headway today. I added the tied down rings, the oleo reservoir with mounting bracket, strut linkage, and retract cylinder.

Here is some comparison shots to clarify what I was describing about the wheel fork being incorrect.

IF you will bear with me, this picture is a little fuzzy, but it is the best one I have to give you an idea of the correct shape and clearance for the tee and the fork.

Hey Guys, thanks for posting with your encouraging comments. It took me about 75-80 hours to build a prototype and then the actual gear for the model. When I do build from scratch, I keep pretty good notes so I can make it again and not have to start over.

I started on the main gear this weekend. I am using the kit set as a base, but there are many parts that Tamiya simply did not include, and the wheels and tire are wrong for the light gray eagles. I will start off with making the wheels.

I use the Tamiya wheel that I narrow by removing the outer portion/wheel face at the line where outside raised ridge used to mount the tire meets the wheel. I then remove this raised portion of the remaining wheel. Since I use the Revell outer wheel and tire, I have to remove the inner rubber from the tide( carefully use a very sharp new blade) and remove the inner wheel form the wheel face. After cleaning everything up, the outer wheel fits perfectly on the Tamiya inner wheel and it all slides into the correct tire. There are Resin correct resin wheels that are amade for this application that are very nice, I just prefer the detail of the separate brake parts for detailing of the brake assembly and saving a few bucks.

I managed to get a start on the main gear. Lots of changes and additions here, as Tamiya made these for the "E" model and the "C": gear is quite different in detail.

First steps were basic assembly and then removing what needed to go and changing what needed to change.

Thanks for the Kind words Harvey, and to those of you with who took the time to send notifications. I am still learning what all this blog stuff is and how it works, so if I am not responding correctly please understand it is not intentional and please drop a PM pointing me in the right direction.

I managed to get some painting done on the main gear and start on the exposed part of the gear wells:

The fuel caps look terrible and will be fixed.
