  1. That sounds like a good way to go. Aside from the chipping I'm pretty happy with the model.
  2. That has to be one of the best build I have seen. Absolutely amazing.
  3. That's a great photo. I have not seen it before in my research. It definitely has some wear to it,
  4. Here are a couple of pictures. Now that I look at it after all these months it may not be too bad.
  5. This is absolutely amazing. John Glenn was my hero growing up and I have always loved the early space program. Your build is fantastic and a real inspiration. May I copy your photos for my onw references? I really want to build one of these.
  6. I have my Tamiya Birdcage Corsair gathering dust on the shelf. I used chipping fluid but it's way overdone and I don't like the way it looks. I did a layer of aluminum and chipping fluid then a layer of zinc chromate primer with chipping fluid then color coat. I was thinking of just doing a bit of light sanding and re-paint the areas. Is this my best approach?
  7. Bring it on. I can't wait to have one on my bench. Maybe CSM will fill some of the hole that WnW left in the hobby. They are producing some great kits.
  8. Your on the downhill slide now Anthony. Those little details sure do make the project.
  9. You sure do some nice work John. It looks fantastic and your build log was great. I'll refer to it when I do mine.
  10. She's looking sooooo good. Coming back after a few months and seeing your build just seems right.
  11. Hey guys, I'm close to getting this one going again. I posted in the lounge about my long absence from the forum and modeling in general. On this thread I'll just say my wife and I had a life changing event. Things are getting more stable now and we are settling into our new normal. I'll be posting some build updates in the near future. I see some great builds going on and I'm looking forward to getting to know the new members and get reacquainted with my old friends. Al
  12. Very nice. I have not tried a Roden kit yet but this inspires me to go for it.
  13. Thanks Kev, I really appreciate it. We are actually doing pretty well under the circumstances.
  14. Hey guys, it's been a long while since I've been here. My wife had a stroke and of course she was my number one priority. It was a pretty significant stroke with complete loss of use of her left arm and weakness in her left leg. Her mind was affected too but not as badly as it could have been. She has very poor short term memory and much of our early years together are just a blur for her. She is still mostly herself and has taken up coloring which has been great for both of us. This is not how we planned to spend retirement but we are learning to make the best of it. We are lucky in that she is able to have home care 4 or 5 days a week for about 5 hours a day. That is a huge help for me. It gives me time to get out and run errands without worrying about her and once she is settled into her coloring she is happy to let me go about my business unless she needs something. I am just getting back into my model building. I have been going slow with a couple of car models but I'm close to getting my Tamiya Corsair back on television bench. I'll have to find the build log and get it going again. I'm also looking forward to catching up on all the builds I've missed. Of course modeling will take a back seat to my wife but I should be able to get back into it pretty well. It's a good escape and diversion too. Besides my wife is pushing me to get back to my hobbies. Who am I to say no? I sure have missed you guys, Al
  15. I might have that sprue. I will look later today. If I do they are yours if you want them if you would pay shipping.
  16. I had not had my coffee at that point. Yes they are resin but the company is now gone. I have seen various ones on eBay though. There is also a seller who sells kit sprues and he often has the correct sprue from the Tamiya kit that has the pylons.
  17. Hi, Thank you for the kind words. It was a fun build. The pylons are from Eduard and are very well detailed but they come too short and need to be extended. The set comes with 3 and I sacrificed one to extend the others. There is more information early in the thread on this.
  18. Thanks Matt. Yes it's a very nice kit. Well detailed and it goes together great. When I bought the Zero paint I also got the set set for the black version so I may be building a second one.
  19. Hi Matt, Thanks for your help and guidance on my first motorcycle and some new materials. I did make a few little mistakes but for the most part I am very happy with the results. Everything I learned will make the next one easier. Here are a couple of pictures as requested.
