  1. Finally a build I was looking for, for a long time. I must say the Dutch scheme is very interesting IMHO, as I'm leaning towards building Dutch Indies is very interesting, loads of exotic material to go for.

Every time I see this kit I'm just one step away from a click to purchase it. So far never did, first see how it builds up, well...

Hope you have a good build and enjoy it.

    Bookmarked!

    Kind regards,

Yeah but the Academy release is from the late 2010's, as opposed to the Tamiya Phantom which is early 90's from memory.

The Academy was example given for a 1/48 kit that scores better in detail on pylons, (scale wise), according to the static Tamiya releases with no further improvements on those details. With so many top class builds over the years, on multiple forums, builders detailing their kits, the don't have the urge to invest in some after market for example.

Not even speaking of a re-release (that probably will never come).

Looking at the prices for those 'Old Kits', a real Marketing Department should have rolled out a strategy for that. Dinosaur Tamiya does not, (cultural aspect I guess), improve on 'Golden Oldies'.

Back to the topic, sorry for this Waku Waku talks.

    Kind regards,

  3. Great work. But looking at the pylons comparing to the body work from the kit, I never understood the lack of detail when it comes to riveting those pylons.

They never improved it in later releases.Bit of a disgrace...

Even a 1/48 scale Phantom from, e.g /Academy has better detail on these parts of the plane.

Keep it coming, like your work very much.

    Kind regards,

  4. A question, at what point will the shuttle come out? I guess when all wheels have touched the surface, or earlier?

I dug out a started 1/48 scale F-4D to give this setup a go, before I'll get a 1/32 scale to make it work.

What a great idea, really inspiring.

    Kind regards,

Hi Robert. Thanks for the info.

I'm actually using the Eduard exhausts but they just seem undersized.

Think I'll give GT Resin a try although have had mixed experiences with them due to frequent poor casting quality.

Yes that was what I'm referring to actually. GT sometimes is a real mess. On the other hand detail is just very good sometimes, outer pylons are very good in detail. Bit of a gamble, but  a pricy one also.

I was also considering the GT resin exhausts.

    What's the consensus on these?

Hello. I have some Gas and they fit. Needs some work cleaning, but detail is good.

I did order the Aires, but as mentioned, too small in diameter.

Think Eduard come very close to correct diameter, as another option, too.

Edit: The Aires however did fit my Revell F-4F very well, lucky me.

  7. There is a moment when everybody thinks, how did I get here, why? When it is so steaming hot, all your little jobs need to be done before the sun reaches the walls and heats your house up. On the other hand, it keeps me safe and sound from Covid-19. Hey hey.

So was thinking to do some on Saturday, worked out on Sunday...

Yes this is the same opening as with Smith me Starfighter build log.

It is my sixts year living over here, never been so hot!

    Phantom time? Yes!

What really bugs me are the little details Revell 'forgets'. glad to have some Tamiya spares for that.

same same, needs some work, but results please me.

Cut from the spare intakes and replaced on Revell. This is the underside.

    And left side.

Now I need to remove one panel line on both sides and adjust some details, so it matches the Tamiya scribing details for both parts / sides.

Big improvement. I call it a day!

    Hope you all like it,
