  1. So, a few weeks ago, I got a little burnt out on plastic, and decided to do something in wood for a change. I set aside the P-38 and broke out an old Comet Fokker DVII kit, and started working on it. Well, the kit was too basic for my current taste, so I got some good technical drawings and blew them up to 1/16 scale, and started building it from scratch instead. I decided to challenge myself a little, and vowed to make it only out of wood, paper, or cloth, nothing else. Now, I don;t claim to know a darn thing about this plane, so it's not technically correct, but it's been fun so far. Here's where I'm at for the time being. We'll see how long it keeps my interest!
  2. Those are some crazy nice looking mud guards!!
  3. I agree with the comments about just taking the risk and putting it aside for a while. This is supposed to be fun, so if that fades, then what's the point in pushing it? Follow where your enjoyment where it leads. "Pushing through" is for work. Frankly, so what if it never gets done? The sun will still come up tomorrow.
  4. uh, wow! That is some amazing weathering! I would swear that turret ring was real.
  5. I would love to see an operable wing fold conversion for some of the 1/32 Navy planes, like the Tamiya/Trumpy Corsairs or the Trumpy/Hase Hellcats, etc. There are plenty of static folded wing options with many kits, but I'm not aware of one that actually operates. I hate the idea of being forced to build it with either wings folded or not folded; I want both!! I like to think this is a realistic possibility, but maybe it isn't.
  6. The only thing I would add if you want me to buy it is that it must have at least one propeller.
  7. I still "whoosh" occasionally. I have, however, stopped actually trying to make the occasional balsa plane fly. They fly great, land poorly.
  8. Ditto to all of the above. It also might sound a bit backward, but the smaller selection in 1/32 means fewer kits on my bucket list, which means a smaller stash for me. I usually build exclusively 1/32 props, and with a few notable exceptions, almost every aircraft I want is now available in 1/32, and in better quality than ever before. Keeps me in check.
  9. He apparently poked his nose in back on Jan 30, but didn't post....
  10. What I really want to know is...did Pappy ever finish his?
  11. Good to see you back at it, Chris! Looking great!
  12. I never thought I would actually be thankful for my tax rates in the US......
  13. Agreed! I built one of these a couple years ago for a buddy (also wheels up) and I had a good time with it as well!
  14. Very cool! The natural wavy texture of the metal looks remarkably like the real skin of a well-worn plane.
  15. Not a model, but parts of old models, like a wing or fuse, or something like that.
  16. Wow, that's a LOT of money!! But very cool.....
  17. Norbert, would it be possible to make figures of specific people from a photograph? I know it's tough without scanning, but I have a great photo of 4 men I'd love to pose with my P-38.
  18. Crap, that's strike two for that poor bird. Back to the resto shop, I guess.
  19. I wish I could upload a .wav file of crickets......cuz I have nothing to say.
  20. I must say that I probably would have approached making that frame with plastic tubing or by soldering brass tubing, because I wouldn't have thought this would work so well. You make it look easy and it's coming together really well!! I think my way would have sucked by comparison. Tim
  21. I had one of these long ago, and considered doing the same thing, but I foolishly sold it when things got tight. Watching you do this makes me glad I sold it, because I would never have had the patience. It's going to be very cool when done, so I will live vicariously through you!! Tim
