  1. Many thanks for the tips guys. I've got some homework now! Will report on results later.
  2. Got a Model Airways Fokker DR 1. For the leading edges of the wings they provide 1/64" basswood and you build a jig to bend them after soaking in water. Even though I soaked the wood for much more than the 1/2 hour they suggest, it split. Wondering if there are any other options out there to make the leading edges.
  3. Thanks for the tips guys. Couldn't find anything on cutting fluid but got success dipping the drill bit in oil before drilling. That made a big difference. Still takes patience, have to drill 30 holes.
  4. Working on the Britannia metal in my Model Expo Camel kit. Bought a twist drill and some bits for drilling very small holes. Problem is the bits keep breaking and/or slipping inside the drill. Tips appreciated. Is there a good twist drill out there I can look for? Or some other way to drill these tiny holes? Thanks.
  5. Well, cleaned all the metal parts with ammonia and light brushing per the manual. Went to the hobby shop to get Tamiya primer as suggested above. Owner says they're out as it is being reformulated by Tamiya. He said I could thank the EPA for this and that paint manufacturers periodically do this per govt dictate. Said should have some in a week or so. Wow, just can't keep govt out of my life! I'll assemble the engine to the point where it is ready for priming.
  6. Just starting my Camel kit from Model Airways and have never worked with this metal. I'd like to paint the engine with a steel finish. Would appreciate tips on what paint works best with this material.
  7. Just got the kit. I usually do plastic WWII 1/32 or 1/48 for bombers. Gave a lot of thought to this and decided to go for it. I used to build Guillow's stick and paper models but quit because my wife couldn't handle the smell of dope so I have some experience working with wood. The kit and 27 pages of instructions is pretty intimidating but I'm determined to do my best and see how it works out. Would appreciate any comments or tips on building this model.
  8. Update: I offered to return the kit at my expense if the seller would refund the sales price. He didn't respond. I then appealed to eBay under their Money Back Guarantee. Within 15 minutes they e-mailed me back that they have decided in my favor. I printed a label and sent the kit back to the seller. eBay says once it is delivered they will process my refund.
  9. I would like to thank everyone for the great comments. At this point I will notify eBay that the seller and I could not come to terms even though I made him a very reasonable compromise whereby he would not be out any money. We'll see how good the eBay money back guarantee is.
  10. Went to Pay Pal site. In cases like this they refer you to eBay. On Friday I can tell eBay that seller and I couldn't come to terms and ask for a eBay guarantee refund. We'll see how it goes and I will report here. Glad I found this site.
  11. Thanks but different company and scale (1/16 vs my 1/8). Interesting instructions though.
  12. New to forum though I have been building airplane models most of my life. Main interest has been 1/32 WWII planes. For a challenge, I recently bought a Hasegawa 1/8 scale Sopwith Camel kit on eBay. Unfortunately the seller misrepresented what he was selling in that the kit is missing the assembly plans, engine sprue and apparently other parts but I can't inventory without the plans. What is there looks intimidating to build. Just looking for suggestions from others as to how they would approach this project, or suggestions on how to sell it to someone better at this than me. Anyone ever build one of these?
