richdlc got a reaction from LSP_K2 in New Chandos Publications Luftwaffe publishing project 'Axis WIngs'
*NOW TAKING PRE-ORDERS!*   Dear Luftwaffe fans, The time has finally come to pull the trigger on our new project, 'Axis Wings'! Chandos Publications, in association with Robert Forsyth at Chevron Publishing, will soon realise a long-held ambition to release the first in what we hope will be a long-running compendium relating to the Luftwaffe and co-belligerent air forces. Drawing on the talents of many well known names in the Luftwaffe research and writing community, each issue will be packed with stories, photographs and artwork. There are many fascinating pieces of information on the Axis air forces that are still unpublished, that are too short for a regular book, but are also too important to sit on a hard drive ad finitum. ‘Axis Wings’ aims to make these stories known, accompanied by specially commissioned artwork, and photographs from private collections. Each issue will be approximately 200 pages long, in a softcover format, and is aimed at historians and model makers. Initially we plan to release two issues per annum. The success of this project very much depends on how well the concept is received, but as long as there is a demand we will keep working. We hope that ‘Axis Wings’ will grow organically, and become self-perpetuating, and to that end we welcome the submission of stories, photographs and comments for future editions. The PDF files are with the printers, and we hope to take delivery of issue 1 by the end of February 2024. Issue 2 will hopefully follow a few months later. The book is ready to pre-order, so please head on over to the shop section of the website (link below) to secure your copy. As usual we will be working with our distribution partners around the World, so if you want to wait until they stock the item then please feel free. We will also be listing the item on our eBay (UK) page, and there you can order the item and pay any relevant taxes at source. All in all, we have tried to cover all bases when it comes to obtaining your copy of this exciting new book!   https://www.chandospublications.co.uk/product/axis-wings-the-luftwaffe-and-co-belligerent-air-forces-compendium/

richdlc got a reaction from LSP_K2 in New Chandos Publications Heinkel He 115 book NOW IN STOCK AND SHIPPING!
    Hi guys
It's been a couple of years since I posted here. This is to update you about the latest book from my publishing company, Chandos Publications. Now in stock! Here's the blurb I have been sending out and posting today:

Our new Heinkel He 115 book is ready!   It's finally here!! After at least a decade (plus another two years of editing) we are excited to announce that the Heinkel He 115 book is finished, and the books are in stock. Based on years of research, this huge tome aims to dispel the myths that surrounded this aircraft type for decades after World War Two ended.   The Heinkel He 115 has been misrepresented in literature over the years to a far greater extent than almost any other aircraft type built in similarly small quantities. It was an excellent, solid design, yet its story is a tale replete with irony. Before World War Two, the near-universal introduction of retractable aircraft undercarriages placed floatplanes at an insurmountable disadvantage compared to landplanes. This inherent handicap rendered the He 115 semi-obsolescent even as it belatedly entered service in late 1939. Göring’s decision to give the Luftwaffe responsibility for aerial minelaying, and then the overwhelming majority of the torpedo strike role, meant that from the second half of 1941 the surviving He 115s were segregated into a handful of Lufttorpedo Staffeln, with the last of the design, for lack of a better alternative, soldiering on in front line service until early 1944. Perhaps the most extraordinary part of its story is that, outdated anachronism though it became, the He 115 was unique in that it was the sole twin-engine floatplane ever to launch aerial torpedoes in anger during the Second World War, and did so in quantity. With a highly detailed production and service history (including service with other nations, and post-war service), as well as specially commissioned drawings, colour profiles, photographs from private collections, and accurate loss lists, this volume draws on information from a wide variety of sources in order to strip away the mythologies and present the reality of the life and service career of the He 115 in greater and more accurate detail than ever before. Title: 'Heinkel He 115 Developmental & Operational History 1937-1952' Authors: Kjetil Åkra, Andreas Brekken & Bjørn Hafsten with Juan Carlos Salgado Pagination: 392 Size - A4 Images - 700+ Colour profiles - 130+ Other - Highly accurate scale drawings based on surviving airframe, production and loss lists plus examination of Stammkennzeichen, colour maps.   The book is now in stock and shipping, so head on over to the Chandos Publications website: http://www.chandospublications.co.uk We will also be working with our usual wholesale partners in the UK, USA, Europe, Asia and Australasia. Overseas customers in particular may wish to purchase the item on eBay UK, where any taxes can usually be paid at source dependant on your country's tax rules. Please note that orders placed through the Chandos Publications website do NOT include sales tax, which may be levied once the item reaches customs in the destination country.

superb - the chromate paint just brings it nicely together. Are you going to weather it? IIRC you are not a big weathering guy, but a lovely wash would make those details pop. Also, as you know, chipping and scratching is easy when you are using real metal.

I have some very tight weave material offcuts that I got a few years ago. I used them to make the spent shell collection bags on my B-17. They might be just right for representing the cloth cover shown in the above image. I can bring you a sample to Telford if you like
