  1. Here's one I did earlier, and yes the codes should be fatter, codes and upper/lower wing roundels sprayed the rest of the markings from the decal files. The various rank flags are all on the Tally Ho stencil sheet S32 007. Cheers Den
  2. That looks great, gotta love that long Griffon nose. Cheers Den
  3. I tend to buy any 1/32 Spitfire aftermarket decals, not for the particular aircraft they depict but for the "raw material" in them, roundels, fin flashes, squadron badges etc. Stencils are pretty much covered by Tally Ho, serial numbers by Xtradecal and Ventura, for codes I tend to have paint masks made up if I cannot find them on the various sheets that I buy. However I prefer paint as then the sky spinner, fuselage band and codes will match. Cheers Den
  4. Who cares about winning contests, I build to please me, and if I built one like that I sure would be pleased. Cheers Den
  5. Hi Vasko, have a happy "retirement" and thank you for all the bits and pieces over the years especially the stuff you shipped out to Thailand for me. Cheers Dennis
  6. I might be able to build that early Hurricane yet then. Cheers Den
  7. As the I-16 had a hand cranked undercarriage retraction system I assumed that the cables were part of that system, but I'm certainly no expert. Cheers Den
  8. The plan was to add the remains of a white winter coat as per the photo in Eric Pilawskii's book but when I had completed the green and black it looked that good (to me) that I left it alone. It's a bit unique in my collection, there are not that many Soviet WW2 era 1/32 kits out there. Maybe I should have done a parallel build, one weathered and one factory finish ! Cheers Den
  9. This is the latest piece of plastic that was unfortunate enough to be mangled by yours truly, my first Soviet build and I really like it, built OOB, using WEM Colourcoats. Cheers Den
  10. Looking good Perry, glad the build hasn't stalled as I really want to see the finished result. Cheers Den
  11. That sure is looking good, I like the desert scheme, will have to build another one. Cheers Den
  12. Just finished one of those and it is a great kit, there are some problem areas and the undercarriage is as fiddly as hell, but it's worth it in the end. Looking great so far ! Cheers Den
  13. Paragon designs made a resin low back XIV conversion, I've got one in the stash, if you contact Neil either on this forum or Britmodeller he may still have some conversions, I,m pretty sure I saw a post of his to that effect recently either on this forum or Britmodeller. Cheers Den
  14. Just finished building the same basic kit (P-39D), and it is a good one, the only problems I had were with the internal wing ducting alignment and the very fiddly nose wheel. , have got an RAF macjine to build as well so I'll be taking notes. Cheers Den
  15. I'm just jealous, the kits have not reached the UK yet. Cheers Den
  16. Hi Alan, nice idea but I have got lots of Soviet stars, markings for Spitfires, P40's and 1/32 scale Soviet stars in different styles (CAM) that is the easy part but usually Soviet aircraft have a lot of other markings which is the hard bit. I could build a plain OD/NG P-39 with red stars but would prefer to build an identifiable aircraft, there's some nice profiles in Soviet Lend-Lease Fighter Aces of WW2. Cheers Den
  17. Here is my latest offering, a great kit mangled by my many mistakes when building it, fortunately in the end it came out OK and I really like it. I like it that much that if ever Special Hobby fetch one out with Soviet markings I'll buy another one, or if someone comes out with a decal sheet of Soviet markings. The undercarriage especially the nose gear need very careful assembly, they are very fiddly. Cheers Den
  18. I think you may have it right there, currently I'm building a SH P-39D and at one point decided to finish it as an example in Soviet service, but there are no decals out there, which is pretty amazing. Will see if the theory holds true when the PCM Ta 152 comes out. Cheers Den
  19. It would probably be easier just to fetch out sheets of code letters and numbers in Sky and the correct size numbers and letters for serials, plus pennant badges. A sheet of roundels and fin flashes and off you go, I've been using the roundels and fin flashes from Eagle Editions sheets but using masks for codes and bodging the serials from various sources. The codes though are the main stumbling block when it comes to building Spitfire conversions, after the Sky codes there are also those wonderful Middle East colourful codes to consider. Cheers Den
  20. That's a great kit Erwin it builds up really nice and the decals are superb. Cheers Dennis
  21. Looks absolutely fantastic, and Soviet aircraft from the GPW period in 1/32 nd scale are far too rare, unfortunately at the asking price (£116) it will have to go onto my Christmas wish list, as I could not justify paying that much for any kit. Cheers Den
  22. Hi Perry, they certainly are, "Supermarine Spitfire Mk. XVIe, 5621, South African Air Force", you are definately spoiled for choice with this conversion, 6 different decal options, RCAF, two RAF (one overall Light Blue, SL271), Belgian, SAAF, and Hellenic Air Force. It is a complete package which is a nice change as normally markings are the thing that stops me building conversions. Cheers Den
  23. For you UK LSPers I can recommend the service from Cammetts, super fast delivery time (one day), this was for the complete package of the conversion kit and a PCM Spitfire IXe, what really blew me away was the decals that I found in the box, not only was there a comprehensive set for the conversion but the Mk IX decals were there as well, this is very handy as I do have a few more Spitfires to build! I haven't even looked at the resin parts yet as Jen pretty well covered that with her articles over on BM and in SAM, some photos of the decals. Cheers Den The Mk XVI decals and the kit Mk IX decals
  24. This is excellent, you are making it look too easy, though I bet it wasn't ! Cheers Den
  25. Wow Charles, never noticed the Mk XIV on that sheet (32002), as you say though there is no serial. Cheers Den
