BJG Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 (edited) Hi everyone on LSP, I hope you have had a great Christmas and received lots of models to make for the coming year. This is my first post here and will be the start of my resurgence into 1:32nd scale after about 34 years when I last made a Matchbox Spitfire, 109 and Lysander and had other models such as Zero, Corsair and P40. They were painted by brush, unweathered but had the decals stuck on where they were meant to go but that was about it apart from I loved them very much and still remember giving them away to a younger friend. Over the years I got into 1:48th scale and built a good few and learnt a bit. I have a great 'stash' of WWII fighters and twins that one day I will do something with. I still want to add to it as well but it will be only Spitfires.Anyway I must say that I am proud to know Ericg from this site and regard him as a personal friend even though he left us over here in the West a couple of years ago to go fly bigger aircraft (some people are just selfish) for some mob they call Q@n+@5. He has been bugging me to glue some plastic together for ages now so to get him off my back I will start with the much revered Revell Spitty Mk I/II that I won on some auction site for a nice lowly sum. Now I think we all know Eric as a bit of a wizard so please don't be too disappointed when I tell you I will be building pretty much OOB. It will take me a while to get back into it I know and being basically a lazy modeller I just want them finished and on display so don't expect 100 hours of scratch building in the office or rescribing all panel lines and rivet counting. What I will try to achieve is painting the right colours, and make it to a standard to be able to display here among all this wonderful stuff you guys do. I am going away for a couple of weeks but just wanted to get a start of the model and sort posting it as well so you won't hear too much from me for a little while after a couple of posts. So I have my work bench sorted.Temporary paint booth.Model all spread out and cleaned.A bit of paint and at last a couple of bits glued together.Cheers,Brad Edited July 31, 2013 by BJG Derek B and Whitey 2
Guest Nigelr32 Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Welcome aboard Brad. I must say, I wish I had that modelling "bench". You have much more storage there than I've seen anywhere!! It'll be interesting to see your kit come together, I've not seen a 1/32 Revell Spit build before.
LSP_Kevin Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Weicome aboard Brad! Any friend of Eric's is a complete...friend of ours. Nice start on the Spitfire. I used to have an old roll-top desk as my workbench too! Especially handy with kids around, as you just shove all the sharp and fragile things inside and pull down the lid. Kev
geedubelyer Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Welcome aboard Brad and thanks for starting a build thread on this kit. This marque of Spitfire is probably my favourite so I hope I can follow along and see how it builds up. I'd very much like an early "BoB" Spitfire in my display case and sincerely hope that Tamiya eventually deign to give us one of their uber versions. Until that happens, I'll build one vicariously via your project. You've made a start so please post more soon and Happy New Year to you. Cheers.
ericg Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Good on you mate, Glad to see you join us here on this, the best site! Great progress, keep it up Eric
Guest Peterpools Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Brad Welcome aboard and enjoy the forum. No finer place to be. Looking forward to your Spitfire build and always have a found place for OOB. Peter
BJG Posted December 26, 2012 Author Posted December 26, 2012 (edited) Well thank you gentlemen, and Eric :-) for the warm welcome. Looks like I will have to work extra hard if you are watching.OK, like I said, pretty much OOB so the nice simple cockpit is done as far as I am concerned although I am waiting on some matt clear so will be able to dull down the finish a bit before I close the fuselage up. (the flash really brings out the shine from the floor polish) My artist oil wash seems pretty grainy so I'll have to work on that but for now it is Ok being internal and 'hidden'.Cheers,Brad Edited August 5, 2013 by BJG
xmh53wrench Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 (edited) Welcome, Brad!!! Keep us posted, and I agree with Peter, there is not a better and friendlier place on the net, these folks are great. I have several of the old Revell Spits, interested on seeing the differences. Have fun!!! Edited December 27, 2012 by xmh53wrench
Guest Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Brad, welcome to our home. Hope you make it yours too ! Great start on the kit. I have this one in the stash, so will be watching.........Harv
A.Wolf Grant Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Welcome Brad, to a warm, friendly and generous forum. If, like me, you need help or advice then give a shout. You'll be amazed by how many people will come forward to help. Looking forward to seeing the Spit come together. Grant.
Guest Peterpools Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Brad Nice progress on the front office. Keep 'em coming Peter
BJG Posted December 28, 2012 Author Posted December 28, 2012 Thank you so much guys, it seems like I have come to the right place to post my builds and learn some thing from some very talented modellers. Also looks like I have picked the right model to start off with the interest you show. Hopefully my technique will kick in as I go along. One small update is that I have fixed the cockpit and frame #12 in place to the starboard side but will not close up the fuselage until I have sprayed a light coat of 'matt' over the cockpit and I have my favourite glue the 'wick in' Tamiya with the brush. I'll be away for a couple of weeks on a holiday as of this afternoon and already can't wait to be back to continue the build. Cheers again, Brad
BJG Posted December 28, 2012 Author Posted December 28, 2012 (edited) Ok, I couldn't help but tape the fuselage together to see how it fitted together. Then before I knew it I had snipped the wing sections from the spruce and placed it all on the building board.I'll be looking in all the hobby shops down in the 'Big Smoke' for bits and pieces.Catch you in a couple of weeks.Brad Edited August 5, 2013 by BJG
BJG Posted January 16, 2013 Author Posted January 16, 2013 (edited) Hi guys, I'm back from holidays and I had a great time buying paints and tools for my modelling. I also have had an order arrive for more bits and pieces and I have had to make another order as it seems that I can not find my decals for my kit so I am in a bit of a bind. I have finally found some early Spitfire decals in 1:32 and I also got some masks to do the actual insignia and squadron codes as well. I shall chose which looks best and save the others. I have just done this tonight so I will be on hold for painting a while on the main part of the build but I will be able to do smaller assemblies and bits. (I will check the forum rules about posting links) Looks like it is ok to post links. Here is what I ordered. http://www.misterkit.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=51127&PHPSESSID=085897650a29ace8d46c2bd4047640b4 Hmmm actuall decals will not show up now when I try to get link. OK, it is good to be back and I have my glue so I have no excuses except being on a shut down at work so totally bombed out for a couple of days. Ericg will know what I'm talking about. Cheers, Brad Edited January 16, 2013 by Brad G
MARCELO CAMPOS Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Welcome Brad. I don't have much experience in big scale but your choice is very good. Looking forward.... Marcelo
