Phantom2
Hi all! I have primed the cockpit with grey. The exhaust rings painted and done… The oilcooler painted with Alclad steel, I´ll go with this part as Eduard´s etched version seems too fiddly to assemble. I painted the cockpit in WEM Nakajima Interior Green and masked everything but the seat and the levers. Then I painted the seat and the cockpit sides WEM Aotake Blue, that funky blue the japs used, Cockpit demasked… …and some details picked out in black… …and weatherd with a mix of Oil-paint and white spirit. Cockpit done… Cheers! Stefan Edited April 17, 2017 by Phantom2 Bill_S, BradG, Shaka HI and 1 other
Shaka HI
That Aotake looks very authentic. What's "WEM"?
Phantom2
That Aotake looks very authentic. What's "WEM"? "WEM" Stands for White Ensign Models (colorcoates), the (former) brand of the paints, today these are sold by Soverign Hobbies in the UK. Phantom2
Hi all! I have a question; Did the Oscar have shoulder harnesses, or just lap belts? Can´t find any good photos, only warbirds and they have the 4-point belts, but how was it during the war? Stefan
MikeMaben
The seat ... ...appears to have only lap belts... HTH Alain Gadbois, Troy Molitor, tomv87 and 2 others
Phantom2
Hi! Thanks for the pics, most helpful! I think both Eduard and Hasegawa missed something here..... But now I have an Idea about how it should look, so I´ll try to remake some parts here. ...and I´ll go with lap-belts only. Thanks! Phantom2
Hi all! I have made som mods on the cockpit, two rods of evergreen and I could mount the backrest a bit higher. Two lapbelts from Eduard mounted to the sides of the seat. I used the instrument panel from an old non-painted Eduard set, the instruments were on a acetate film, on wich I painted white on the back. I washed the cockpit sides liberally with a mix of Lamp Black and Burnt Umbra oil-paints and then I drybrushed the details with silver. …and glued the fuselage together. The fit was surprisingly good for such an old kit! Then i turned my attention to the engine, here it´s painted Alclad steel with black rods and a silver collector ring. I had to replace some of the rods as they broke off when I took the part of the tree. I painted the exhausts with a mix of Antique Bronze, Aluminium and Hull red. Engine completed Cheers! Phantom2
Hi all! Fuselage, wings, engine, cockpit and some minor assemblies are ready! The top of the wings needed some reinforcements, I cut small pieces of plasticard and glued in the gap. I glued the cockpit from below… …and reinforced the floor; Time to give her wings… The wings fitted perfectly with no gaps whatsoever! The tape is just to hold the wings in the correct position while the glue dries. Can hardly belive this kit is as old as It really is! Cheers!
