Kyle49
Sorry if I am posting this in the wrong forum (please let me know), but I am just now getting back into modeling. I am repairing old Bf-109's that were damaged in a move. Stripped the old decals and doing some repainting and was wondering if any of you more "experienced" modelers lay a clear coat between colors. I have repainted the RLM 78 Hellblau and after they dry I was thinking of laying a clear coat so none of the new paint is pulled off when I re-mask and move on to the other colors. Thank you for any advice in advance.
scvrobeson
No, once the paint has cured, you should be able to mask over it without issue. I don't believe that I've ever put down a clear coat between colors, except when I did some hairspray chippings on a build Matt CRAZY IVAN5, Oldbaldguy and LSP_K2

CRAZY IVAN5
I've never had to put down a clear coat between colors, there really shouldn't be any issues.
CRAZY IVAN5
Now you could have an issue if you paint lacquer over enamels. I'd test things out on a small area, sometimes it can lift the enamel even if it's fully cured.
MikeMaben
Hi Kyle It would depend on the surface after the strip. If it's clean and oil free, it should be fine for masking over. Have fun.
Rick Griewski
My only clear coat has been to keep red or yellow from bleeding into white
