Marco
Hi All ! I am quite not active on this forum, but I enjoyed watching it. Now I have a F-105D Thunderchief 1:32 - Trumpeter. I remember long time ago I had a 1:72 Thud painted in natural metal with rear fuselage red. Can anybody help with some pictures of this variant of painting ? Thank you very much in advance ! Marco
You're right Quang !....thousands beers ago....back in the 60's... That's the painting variant I am looking for !
Cajun Two One
Marco, Note that the old Revell kit is a B model. All the "natural metal" D's were in fact painted aluminum dope, to help prevent corrosion. alain11
Hi I think GT resin does a new nose cone for the early B version , but I not sure that this new nose is enough to backdated the D , some other works are needed on the frame etc.....???!!! Marco
Hi Alan and Cajun Two One and thanks for infos. Which are the differences between B model and D ? Edited March 8, 2016 by Marco
Rob Colvin
From a D to a B......you will need A new nose A new instrument panel Remove the rwrs/ antennas from the vertical Remove the plates and ram air scoops from the fuselage Add back small vent doors where the ram air scoops were remove the spine on back part of the fuselage just forward of the tail remove the reinforcement plates from the lower wings fill the pylons to match the wing lastly depending on jet there may have been no barrier hook....and the ventral strake could have been full length There may be more but that will get you close......Not my pic.....BTW I am so close ordering the GT stuff and doing this myself. Cajun Two One
Marco, There is a D model that was painted similar to the B model you're interested in. If I find it I will PM you. Cheers, Itch

The B also had an antenna grid in the canopy, I personally would mask off the areas that need to stay clear, and a shot of Dullcote on the exposed areas would create the pattern nicely, I think.
