Yes.....another question for the BF109 Specialists

Hello to everybody.

Having a new project in mind......(yes I have something in up there....... :frantic:

I have one or two questions for you, the BF 109 specialists!

I want to build the A. Galland BF 109E. My different searches makes me think it is a BF 109 E4 N (Fighter).

Is this correct?

So, I have the Trupeter BF 109 E4.(one of the latest kit) with the Galland decals in it.

I have also the Aero detail over the BF 109E.

When I look through the pictures in the book I think the dash in the kit is not correct (missing a row at the bottom), the pit has the cover for a through the spin canon (?),etc etc....al these can be corrected.

My other question is does Galland plane have a standard spinner or a pointed spinner (did not found a good picture of his plane. The kit has not the hole in the pit glass to put his "longvieuw" (?°.

Any help appreciated.

Thank you.

Cheers,

Jamme

Jamme,

For sure there should not be a cannon cover in the cockpit. Because of the ammo containers for the cowl guns, for one reason, no 109Es were eqipped with a central cannon.

Oof!! You would be much better served with the Cyber-Hobby Bf109E-4! For one, it has the parts needed for Galland's a/c in the box.

At any rate, Galland used a bunch of different aircraft. But one of his most famous was the 109E-4/N. It would have an extra oil reservoir on the front port-side of the engine, and would use the c3 fuel logo. Other than that, and his famous telescope, that is about it. The extra "missing" panel for the IP: are you talking about a small one that sits in the middle under the lower row of instruments? If so, that is an armament panel for the E-4/B, the fighter-bomber variant, and would not be in Galland's aircraft.

Hello,

FWIW, all of the photos posted by Dejan show W.Nr. 5819 at different times during the second half of 1940 while being flown by Galland. As far as its camouflage scheme is concerned it retained the standard 02/71/65 finish throughout its life (even after being passed on to the Kommandeur of the Erg.Gr./JG26, Oblt. Hubertus von Holtey). Although retaining the basic camouflage colours the only other changes that were made to its appearance concern the tactical yellow markings, whether or not it carried the standard or rounded spinner, the mottling density/style along the fuselage sides, whether or not the mouse emblem was applied and also the number of Abschussbalken on each side of the rudder and of course the telescope in the windscreen. If you read through my photo captions which accompany the photos in the page scans from Dejan you will find that they cover most of the variations mentioned above.

Three additional photos of this particular aircraft can be found on page 373 of Luftwaffe Colours, Battle of Britain Phase Four by Classic Colours.

Hello to all.

Thank you for your answers.

Ray: I'm not talking about the extra panne. I mean there should be two rows of gages at the lowest part of the dashboard. In the kit there is only one...

Lud13:thank you for the pics.

Dave: Thank you for the precisions

Mhorina: Thank you for the answer

I think I better wait for the Dragon kit, but as I received the Trumpeter kit, I will have a look of what can be done.

The dimension of the Trumpeter kit is quite right, so.....

Anyway, once again thank you all.

Cheers,

Jamme

I agree with Ray, if you really want to make an accurate Galland (or any for that matter) 109E4, sell or trade the Trumpy kit and get the CyberyHobby Dragon one. They give you the correct blunted spinner for a Galland 109E4, as well as the other bits (and even decals) that Ray mentioned.

If you look at his 109E comparison (in "What's New"), you can see that the Trumpy fuselage has some issues. While overall length is not bad, looking at the nose you can see the cowl group is significantly shorter, and the gun cover too long to make up for it. Of course, if these things don't bother you, then you should be able to build a Galland 109E by correcting some cockpit detail and modifying the spinner to give the unique blunted shape.

Cheers,

Doug

Hey Jamme...Don't forget these two very important items..

Canopy brace for the telescope..and how far back the eye piece extends.

And the very visable cigar lighter left side of dash.
