robtmelvin
Holy Tin Can Sailors, Batman! That is some impressive work. I built ships when I first came back to modelling (and still to the occasional one when I'm feeling masochistic), but gave them up as a regular pursuit after coming to the conclusion that trying to deal with PE in 1:350 was probably going to result in a full out nervous breakdown. I've been a fan of DE's ever since reading "Last Stand of The Tin Can Sailors", a book I would recommend to anybody with an interest in WW 2 history. It's the story of the Battle Off Samar in which a bunch of destroyers and DE's, desperately trying to protect a few vulnerable escort carriers, took on a Japanese battleship and cruiser force trying to slip in the back door to Leyte Gulf to get in amongst the landing fleet. Halsey had taken off chasing a bunch of essentially plane less carriers leaving the back door unguarded. I'm overwhelmed with you work. Even though I build planes almost exclusively now, I'll have to follow this thread. I can't wait to see what she looks like when you are done with her. Now that is some first rate scratch building! rammstein
hello all, I have finally finished the hull plating. So I started on the bilge keel. first I mark where the bilge keel will come. then I cut out a strip of styrene 1,5 cm x 94.5 cm on strip of styrene with pins glued in place The bilge keel glued in place. This is how it looks. now I have to do the starboard side. Thanks Bob for the kind reply. enjoy, Rammstein

rammstein
Hello all, I decided to build my DE in a diorama , plowing through the waves, like the photo below.I shall not make the screws and screw shafts It will not be the USS Solar ,but USS Gendreau , named for : Capt. Alfred E.Gendreau , killed July 21,1943 aboard LST 343 at Rendova , Solomon Islands. USS Gendreau is painted Ms 32/11D. The Destroyer Escorts had their name welded at the stern , letters where made from scrap iron I also placed the bilge pump drain port and starboard and some other drainson the port side On the main deck I have cut out some deck plates. These will be detailed later. enjoy, Rammstein

rammstein
Hello all, Thanks for the kind replies. Have been working on the hawse pipe , on the port side with this result. sorry that this photo is not clear. Now I will explain how I did this. First mark the hawse pipe. File away the styrene and glue some support at the end and below deck. Superglue the correct tube into the opening. sand away the surplus of the tubing , sorry for the blurry photo. use some putty to fill in the gaps and let dry. enjoy, more to come Rammstein

Loic
That really is an "Homerus" project and it is going to be just awsome! I just have trouble to imagine the size of this monster and the amount of detail one can add on it...
rammstein
hello all, have done some more work on my ship , I have detailled the smoke screen canisters. I also detailled the 4 deck plates , in the first photo you can see the differnt stages. top left , mark all the holes , top right all the holes drilled out. lower right the plates are 0,50 mm thick , insert small discs (0.25 thickness) into the holes. lower left , glue some etched screws into the holes. this is how it looks on the ship. I also glued on the pad eyes on the hull , LOIC this is some of the amount of detail I will bring on the model. close-up enjoy, Rammstein
