Radu,

Very nice, clean, accurately done work! Wow!

I've always wanted to see this IAR done in 1/32nd scale after reading about how they decimated the P-38s. Had to be one heck of an aircraft!

I'm really looking forward to seeing this build progress. I can't say enough how glad I am seeing you do this project.

I promise I'll get back to my Shinden experimental---- after I finish my birdcage F4U-1 Ken Walsh.

I am even starting collecting data on a medium bomber to scratch a B-26B Maurader, just trying to get my plans scaled correctly and get some more photos. I picked up a Monogram 1/48 for reference from Reuben (thanks Reuben!)

AND I still got to get some PSP from you as the Birdcage is going into a small revetment diorama!

You are inspiring me to get back to scratch building and not just converting and detailing an old Revell build (which I thought go a lot faster----

but when life didn't interfere "modeling burnout" did. But this IAR has inspired me to get my but moving on all these projects piling up

Looking forward to seeing your IAR-80!!!! If I'm not mistaken that looks like an IAR-80 for you avatar....correct???

Thanks, everyone.

I am back on line - my computer was offline for a couple of days because I was redecorating my office/workroom for the last few days. My workstation is till not back to normal, but will be soon.

I hope to get back to this model soon. I will post some pictures when ready.

Jon, I am glad that you are back to your scratchbuilding. I will definitely want one of your Shindens. Yes, you are right, my avatar is a IAR80.

Regards,

Radu

Yeah same here. What started out as new desk and workbench has mushroomed to plan for a full renovation of the basement area starting in september. Its that can of worms one opens once in a while. Also my part time job is moving to bigger digs and guess what a reno there too. Sheesh when it rains it pours doesn't it

Ah well, mine was a bit more planned than that. I emptied the room completely, I removed the carpet along with the resident monster, I repainted the lot in a nice shade of prewar RLM65, I laid a new wooden floor with a new monster that I must get accustomed to, I screwed in a few more brackets for extra shelves and then I put all the stuff back in again. My workstation is getting widened, that is the delay, but I am getting it done today.

I can tell you exactly when I fell in love with the IAR 80: It was in late 1989 when the Romanian magazine Modelism published their seminal drawings of the IAR 80 series. Since then, I have been dreaming of a model of this beautiful plane and never stopped dreaming (it is also my avatar). Well, here we are - this will be my next kit.

I am going to do an aircraft from the last series of the IAR 80 production (technically relabelled IAR 81C) which was also the most numerous. There are plenty of colour schemes and markings for it and it should make for an interesting kit.

I will keep posting pictures here as I progress with it.

Radu,

Looks nice!

I liked the IAR-80 ( and wanted to build one) after reading about how a flight of P-38s were decimated by them, I believe they were the escorts for the Ploesti B-24 raiders.

Radu I'm back to the bench because I've been laid off from my graphic design job..... the economy is making a sucking sound.

Yes will be on the J7W1 soon!

Spyromania,

I am tinkering with it... slowly. It will be finished, I promise that much, but I cannot tell when.

Jon,

Sorry to hear about your predicament. If you need any help with the J7W1, just give me a shout.

The IAR80 was an amazing aircraft and quite able to face-off any of its foes. It slowly became obsolete by 1945 as the others got better engines, but on the Eastern Front it did quite well.

But is is a looker. :P

I agree, it is a beautiful book and well worth every single cent. The same text was published in 2000 in Romanian, but with with fewer photos. As mentioned eralier in the thread I met Dan Antoniu, one of the authors, last summer and he gave me a lot of documents and information on the IAR80. I also had the chance to inspect the original engine maintenance manual, airframe parts list and the original factory drawings.

I am still working on this model and I will have some photos soon. At this moment I am doing a lot of sanding and filling and there is little to show other than a very large and dense cloud of plastic dust
