  1. Here is the view from the right wing- As you can see, quite a bit of detailing can be done when the kit parts are assembled. I still have to add a pair of p.e. parts down the center of the well, but aside from that, that is all you get in the kit. Now one can see why I was stressing a bit!!!!!
  2. Well, here is some of the preliminary detailing I am doing on the wheel well at the moment- Thanks to Manu's pics, I have a pretty good idea of what it should look like- CHAOS! So I started from the bottom of the well, and am working my way up....... Here is a bottom view of what I have added so far- most of it is shielded copper wire, and I used some Tamiya tape to replicate some heat sheilding on a couple of hoses ala' Brian Cauchi's 109 article....not completely accurate, but, I think it looks cool.
  3. Bsarnoffca, Dragonfly, and Murph- Thanks for the compliments guys. I truly do appreciate them. We shall see how the build progresses. I am happy with the results overall. There will be some things I will do different next time (Veltro!) I am working on the tail right now- we shall see how it comes out.... THOR
  4. Manu- Always looking for more info- Thanks for the pics......This kit is not for the faint of heart, but, I have built way worse. I am still trying to find some great shots of the plumbing in the main gear bay, so I can try and fill up that space a bit. I am in the process of modifying the tailplanes right now- She will not beat me- After all, I have a four pound deadblow hammer that can end any dispute the kit and I might have pretty quickly!!!!!!! THOR
  5. A pic of the turtle deck shape problem- sorry about the crappy pic...... THOR
  6. Well here is the fuselage together- I wish I could say the fit was great- but, the fuselage halves are a bit warped, and needed to be clamped while I doused the seam with Pro-Weld. Gonna be some serious gap filling, and rescribing- the panel lines are inconsistent anyway. Also, the rear turtledeck behind the pilot's headrest is out of round. Also, the lower radiator cowling is resin, and also warped. This kit is gonna fight me all the way!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the pics Manu- right click save!!!!!!!! Frank- I used Model Master RAF Interior green mixed with a touch of Flat White for the interior...... Thanks for the comments!!!!! THOR
  7. Here is a shot of the exhaust fit- The resin pieces are really well cast here- showing no defects at all. The good news is, you do not even have to remove them from the casting blocks- The bad news is you once again not only have to file all four sides of the exhaust openings to elargen them, but you also have to do a bit more grinding on the inside of the fuselage half to get them to sit properly- I am still not terribly happy with the overall fit- But, I decided to let it ride. I could not grind out anymore, as the plastic on the fuselage was thin enough to let light through it; without a direct source of light! The exhausts were affixed using 5 minute epoxy- not only for alignment, but for reinforcement purposes of the fuselage plastic........Once again, any comments are welcome. Thanks for looking, and Happy Modeling........ THOR
  8. Here is an idea of what will be seen when the fuselage is all closed up. Not much....
  9. Well, here is a rear 3/4 view of the same fuselage half- The instrument panel came out well I think- I was not happy with the acetate gauges that came in the kit- which, ironically, I ended up damaging- So the spares box instruments show up well here. 5 minute epoxy for the glass faces- the little p.e. handles on the instrument panel are a nice touch, but will drive you crazy- (I still have an eye twitch!)
  10. Hi Guys- Back with pics as promised. Let's see..... Here is a front 3/4 of the installed cockpit components in the right fuselage half- I think it shows the detail of the kit's cockpit out of the box well. I used 5 minute epoxy on the parts for proper alignment. The fitting of the cockpit parts in this kit is very poor- Not only do you have to grind a crapload of plastic away from the fuselage halves, but everything, and I mean EVERYTHING has to be lined up perfectly, or else the halves will not close right......
  11. Looking great Piet- I am going to build this one out of the box- sometime this century! Thanks for the inspiration..... THOR
  12. Love the Jg54 color scheme- Wish I was home long enough to build one- Thanks for sharing the progress- I am enjoying this thread!! THOR
  13. Richard- Sweet work- Love the wing fix- engine is looking good as well- Keep it up! THOR
  14. Dragonfly- Looks great. I love the work so far- Beautiful paintwork so far! Keep posting! THOR
  15. Jay- Love the Tif- Top notch work- I am getting ready to build the ancient Revell one of these days soon, so this thread has been invaluable- Thanks for sharing- The rockets look great! THOR
  16. Menelaos- I like the work you have put in here- Makes me want to get to a few of the big kits I have- As soon as I get the Macchi 202 off the bench!!!!!!! Looks Great! THOR
  17. Murph- Jay is right- be careful getting into the deadline game- I used to build for an even worse entitiy than the mags- The U.S. government! And the deadlines were a pain to say the least. It burned me out from modeling so bad, that I did not touch a regular kit in almost three years- (well that and the injuries to my hands) I still seem to bounce from project to project aimlessly- the only difference is I do not finish anything hardly anymore. Maybe one to two kits a year! I like the work on the Boeing........The flying wires look great- as a soon-to-be-certificated A&P, I can appreciate the craftmanship!!!!!! Keep it up! THOR
  18. Brian- All I can say is.....HOLY CRAP! You, sir, are the MAN!!!!!!!! THOR
  19. Lynn, Lynn, Lynn- Now you and I both know that you will not be able to give 109's for 6 months! Maybe 6 minutes...... Merry Christmas to you and Deb- Hope all is well- THOR
  20. Hey Chris- I will take the decals off your hands for OLD CROW...What would you like for them??????? THOR
  21. Guys, I know I am a nobody here, and I have had the priveledge to meet and know some of you- I respect all of you as modelers, and I would even go as far as to say decent people. But, this Mustang thread is old.....real old. I think that there is one fact some have missed. Ask yourself this.... Will the Dragon P-51D be better than the decades old Hasegawa offering? Hell Yes! As far as I am concerned- I am happy that someone is taking a stab at it........ Just a thought........ Rant off- Modeling on! THOR
  22. Hi All- I have been wondering- How hard is it to find one of the Bandai 24th Zeros? And, what do they usually run? I am curious to find out.....Know someone who is looking for one....... THOR
  23. Saw a pic of a Hungarian Fw-190 recently, and I liked the look of the camo scheme. Are there any decent schemes for Hungarian 109G-6's out there? And if so, where could I find some accurate profiles? I think I would like to try one..... THOR
