  1. Coming along really great. I also appreciate your work proof-reading the instructions as I may join later in the year with a 110 as well. Jeff
  2. +1 On that question. Beautiful work. Jeff
  3. Thanks guys. Well I'm calling it done. Managed to just barely get a 2nd project wrapped up this year. Finished up the weathering to the Staghound to where I'm happy with it. I also played abound with the base a little and added some sitting/stagnant water with Vallejo still water. It works ok for small puddles, but if I had to do it again I'd probably take a stab at using a clear resin. The fingerprints on the black parts of the base I didn't notice till after my photos, but they're cleaned up now. Thanks for all the kind words and motivation during the build. Jeff
  4. Fantastic work! Been following along and it makes me want to start my 110. Jeff
  5. Still a ways to go but making some progress. I feel like I'm about 90% of the way there. I'm not the best figure painter and the pixie suit is a pain, but I can live with these two. As I'm modelling a Canadian vehicle, I'm pretty happy that this guy looks a bit like Gordie Howe to me. I didn't try to copy the scene entirely, mostly because I failed to make convincing mature trees. But this pic in Holland '44 was the inspiration for the base. And finally where things stand. Knowing my glacial speed I might not have another update till after Christmas. So thanks for looking and happy holidays. Cheers Jeff
  6. Hello again. Finished up my first round of weathering on the Staghound. I used Vallejo black brown for the chipping as well as some coloured pencils. The dust effects like the Kubel is Ammo enamel effects and the dried mud is Vallejo's coloured pumice stuff, dark earth I think. I also added a couple mortar boxes which were sometimes welded onto the real vehicle as additional stowage. Also got a start on some of the stowage I plan to stick in the side stowage bins. Next up some more stowage and a start on my figures. Thanks for looking. Jeff
  7. Sheesh. So it's been about a month without updates. I'm enjoying the armour build, but I'm itching to get back to something with wings. I've been able to finish up the Kubelwagen portion of the diorama. It's out of the box except for the Archer Transfer instrument cluster decal and some lead foil on the convertible top. I used Ammo of Mig's dunkelgelb for the base and Tamiya's olive green and red brown for the camo work. The weathering is mostly Ammo's enamel weathering effects with pigments in a couple places. I've been trying to figure out something to put in the rear seat of the Kubel for the trooper to be inspecting and landed on a "Monuments Men" idea. So on to the pictures. I also have the Staghound ready for a little chipping and further detail painting before it gets weathered. Thanks for looking. Jeff
  8. Been a while, sorry for not updating. Managed to get the Staghound's base-coat & decals down. Landed on markings for the XII Manitoba Dragoons, for no other reason then my Grandpa lived in Winnipeg for a time after the war. Tried a little colour modulation working from mixing yellows with Tamiya JSDF olive drab. It annoyingly sort of disappeared under the clear coat. Maybe it'll return after the matte coat and further weathering. I also got the Kubelwagen's interior painted and the body assembled so it can hit the spray booth soon. I'm trying out Ammo of Mig's interpretation of dunklegelb. I like the colour out of the jar, I like I can brush paint to touch up, but I just don't like how it sprays. Decided instead of modeling a dirt/muddy road I'd take a crack at a brick road like I saw in a period photo in Belgium. Finally I'm waiting on some Value Gear stuff to show up so I can add some stowage, but it's taking forever to arrive. Are any other Canadians suddenly having issues with Canada Post really dragging their feet on international shipments? I was able to start painting some stuff from the spares bin. I'm still keeping the earlier figure in the turret from the earlier post, I've just decided to add a 2nd gent to add a little interest. Thanks for looking. Jeff
  9. Thanks. I initially tried to solder it but, it wasn't the neatest finish. So I attached the steel mesh to the brass with thin super glue. It feels like it's a sturdy enough solution. Jeff
  10. Hello again. I have the Staghound about ready for the paint booth. Had to make a little stand for it out of basswood because I'm sure I'll break off a tow shackle or sway bar if I leave it on it's belly before the wheels go on. Decided to have a go at building a small base for it. I'm adding a Tamiya Kubelwagen and plan on modelling it as abandoned on the side of the road in the Netherlands. It goes without saying that the Kubel is a nice little kit, but I wish the wooden floorboards were separate from the floor like they are on the Schwimmwagen kit to facilitate easier painting. Besides giving some scale for how much of a 500lb gorilla the Staghound is, the Kubel will also give me a cheap kit to practice a little muddy weathering on before having a go at the main event. I've been wanting to take a shot at building a small wire tree for a while now and thought why not? I looked easy enough to do in the model railroad magazines at my father-in-laws place. Twist and solder some copper wire, epoxy putty trunk, Mr. Surfacer branches, done. However it is definately tricker then it sounds. Still a work in progress but hopefully I can get it looking better after things dry more. Thanks again for looking. Jeff
  11. Glad you're building this, I'll definitely follow along. Thinking of picking it up myself. Jeff
  12. Hi. Decided to get a start on this sucker and have been chipping away at it for a couple weeks. It's the oldest kit in my stash. I bought it when I first returned to the hobby, saw the instructions and left it on a shelf for eight years. Didn't take a lot of pictures to this point because I wasn't going to blog it, but I find it keeps me motivated during builds so here goes. The kit has really nice detail and fit is pretty good, but you pay the price in part count. I think this side of the front suspension was around 25 parts. I'm finishing the model in markings of the Manitoba Dragoons. Apparently they removed the external fuel tanks and replaced them with field made bins. So I took a shot at soldering some up with brass wire and steel mesh. Added some Mr. Surfacer 500 to get a sand casted texture to the turret that needs to be toned down a bit, as well as a RB 37mm barrel and a Bronco figure. Still a work in progress and I figure at my pace I'm still a couple weeks away before it hits primer. I've always had a soft spot for the Staghound, but it is a surprisingly large vehicle for an armoured car. Here it is dwarfing a Panzer I, without it's wheels on. Thanks for looking, I'll try to add more photos in future updates. Cheers Jeff
  13. Thanks for all the kind words. Much appreciated. If you go for the F-8 version like I did, you might want to download the instructions from the newer A-8 version. They're much better then the crappy B&W line drawings in the older kit and the changes between the two are pretty minimal. https://stage.revell.de/fileadmin/import/images/bau/03926_%23BAU_FOCKE_WULF_FW190_A8_NIGHTFIGHTER.PDF Jeff
  14. Here's my completed 1/32 Revell FW-190 F-8 kit. In addition to the base kit I also used HGW belts, Eaglecal decals, Airscale decals and Eduard wheels. A fun build but for anyone looking to build it themselves, watch out for the fit on the cowl. Thanks for looking. Jeff
  15. Hello again. I think I'm calling this kit done. There's a few things about the build I feel like I could have done better, but I learned from the mistakes and had a good time with it. Thanks for following along and once more thanks for the constructive criticism with regards to the exhaust staining. After using those suggestions I'm much happier with the results. The final pics Cheers Jeff
  16. Good luck with the build. I used the barracuda intake and exhaust set on mine and in hindsight wish I had purchased the full set like you did. Jeff
  17. Coming along really nicely. I have the same George kit sitting in an online shopping cart and I might have to pull the trigger on it now. Jeff
  18. Thanks for the input. I hate doing exhaust staining, but the colour recommendations and the great suggestion from Mike to try to feather it and end less abruptly is going to be a big help. I have a coupe days off work coming up and hopefully I'll be able to get some bench time. I did something really similar to this on my current build, but must not have thinned it enough. Also my wife and I are heading into Ottawa for a couple days next month. Is there any good hobby shops to hit in town? Jeff
  19. Thanks for the input. Do you have a particular colour or colours of pigment you'd use for exhaust? Jeff
  20. Hello again. Only a quick update as I've been swamped this week with work and a sick kid, AKA my standard week. Managed to do some minor chipping with a coloured pencil, attach the landing lights and wheels and get a start on the exhaust weathering. I'm not 100% happy with the exhaust staining but I never am. I put off doing it for 2-3 days out of fear of ruining the model at the finish line. I may play with it a bit more. What do you think? I still need to attach the canopy, run an aerial wire, decide if I want to hang bombs under the wings and play with the prop a bit more. I've enjoyed the build a lot, but I'm starting to get the point in our relationship where we need to start seeing other people. Thanks again for all your input and encouragement. Jeff
