  1. I can't find anything about differences in tail wheel size changes in the references I have set out for my build in the GB. I found it listed as 350mm x 135mm. I do note that looking at photographs there seems to be differences in the amount of clearance between tire and the landing gear strut. Maybe that helps?
  2. Thanks for the reminder, Thierry. It's the one book that I don't have.
  3. These came today. I think I slipped up, thought I had ordered the later wheels, ah well.
  4. Now for the conundrum, I'm just going to let it be with the AlleyCat modifications. Sorry Ronnie! A project for the future would be to create a corrected resin printed modification kit. That would be interesting.
  5. Yup, I imagine CG too. But actually, related to the Ki-61-II design. There was ballast added to the tail too. The short story of it is, Kawasaki was developing the Ki-61-II Kai using an "improved" engine (Ha-140) which is where the problems were. There were loads of 'finished' airframes sitting in a field awaiting working engines. The IJAAF came along and said 'enough' you're going to use the Mitsubishi Ha-112-II engine. That is what became the Ki-100. The 80mm actually came from the Ki-61-II design because the Ha-140 engine was heavier and longer than the Ha-40 engine used in the Ki-61-I aircraft. The 80mm was added behind the main spar. That is what basically moved the wing 'forward'. Changes were also made to the windscreen in the Ki-61-II design which stayed in the Ki-100 design. The Kagero book has a pretty nice description of the changes.

  7. Canopy, I suspect that the AlleyCat part sized for having it closed. It doesn't seem to be sized for having it open. Of course, I have the "Bubble Top' version and I haven't gotten serious about that part yet. I'm still working on a better fit of the wings to the fuselage, and I suspect that the AM flaps might slightly be affecting that. Well, the DWP books are usually only found on ebay and they can be expensive, upwards of $100 depending upon which book in the series. They are mostly drawings with a few photos. The author is Matsuba Minoru. It sometimes helps to just search his name. It is a series of 10 books #1 (P-51 on the cover) is usually the most readily available but it only contains the Ki-61. #2 (P-38 on the cover) has both the Ki-61 and Ki-100. There is a Best of Selection series which contains some of the drawings from the DWP series. There are 4 of those books, but unfortunately, they do not include the Ki-61 and Ki-100. Another choice would be the Maru Mechanic series #45 but most of the drawings appear to be for the Ki-61. Only a small amount of info for the Ki-100. All of these books are in Japanese. Another book would be the Schiffer book Kawasaki Ki-61 Hein in Japanese Army Air Force Service. It has a lot of information but nothing in the way of useful drawings. There is also the Kagero Monograph #58. Dave
  8. AlleyCat used the Hasegawa part (C33) for the wing center section as part of their master. I doubt I'll have this finished for Chattanooga, I have at least 11 days between here and there that will unfortunately have no modeling done.
  9. Ronnie Olsthoorn (Skyraider3D) had messaged me about this. The wing on the Ki-100 was moved forward 80mm (full scale) which translates to 2.5mm in 1/32 scale. He sent me the attached photos. "The Ki-100's wing is moved 80 mm forward compared to the Ki-61-I. Alley cat ignore this and the result is a bit... uncomfortable. Note also the trailing edge of the wingroot - it's practically straight on the real thing (and will have to be, once you move the wing). It'll be quite a putty fest to fix this might be possible, but not sure if it's worth it as I'm about the only person on the planet who takes offence LOL. I've scanned these drawings from the Design with Precision series of books. On the Ki-100 drawing, the 80mm near the circle 2 is the extra. I haven't attached the center section and the wings yet. I was honestly still debating whether I was going to make the adjustment. If you're going to make the adjustment, I think the center section needs to be trimmed the 2.5mm and moved forward, which will carry the wings along with it.
  10. Hey Troy and anyone else who might be building this. Don't get in a hurry putting the oil cooler under the fuselage. Wait until the center section and the wings are in place. It'll just make it easier to sand and fill.
  11. Hi Troy, back up the way in one of the posts you can see where I needed to use some filler. I didn’t get serious about fitting the cowl ring until after I glued the fuselage together. I guess I could have used a saw to cut that area apart and tried removing a little bit to get a better fit but I didn’t. I just used some filler. The mounting area under the engine cowling for the oil cooler will definitely need a bit of filler.
  12. Interesting, when I checked SB for new items, they're now carrying Black Dog. But not the set I needed. Everything shown so far is 1/48. The one I ordered from the ebay seller is supposed to arrive Saturday.
  13. Hmmm, interesting, Tim. That sort of thing never crossed my mind. I'll have to check it out. Thanks!
  14. Well, FWIW, I was using Lychee slicer. I created another file with angled cylinder heads and using a downloaded resin file from the Lychee database for the particular resin that I have and set the exposure time to 2 seconds which is what is noted on the bottle and the Anycubic web site. What a mess! I had loose layer wafers all over the place from every part on the build plate. There was stuff stuck to the FEP too. So.... I decided to just use the Anycubic Proton slicer to create a file. All the parts look good! I should probably adjust the exposure time for the bottom layers to make it easier too get the parts off the build plate. And I'll have to compare the settings in Lychee to these settings and perhaps try that again.
  15. Well, I think I got the front of the engine cowling smoothed out. Now for the Oil Cooler and more filling and sanding. I'm wondering if I had taken a little off of the fuselage halves in that lower front area if they might have met a little better and perhaps it would have fit the front ring better.
  16. Thanks, Mark. I hope you won't be disappointed. I'm working on finding the best reference for the top surface camouflage.
  17. Thanks, D. I'm not sure why I hadn't looked there. There are lots of other bits included. Jerry Crandall's book does note that the windscreen quarter panel is not armored.
  18. Okay, I've decided to stick with the original choice. I'll scratch the extra armor plating and scratch or 3D print the 'window' frames and look for something of the appropriate thickness. I have ordered some additional AM too. I'll show that after it arrives. I've also found a couple of threads here to read through too.

  20. Okay, Priiler's wingman was Ogfr. Heinz Wodarczyk. Now to see if I can find something about his aircraft. Edit: He appears to have been killed during Operation Bodenplatte.
  21. Thanks, Mike. Yes, they are expensive. They’re marked as ‘Available’ which means they can get it. And I’d receive it after they’ve ordered it and received it. And that price is ~2/3 the cost of the Revell A8/R2 kit. Which I’m considering buying to use for White 7 or perhaps changing my subject. I think the Hasegawa kit would be perfect for Prillar’s machine. i was trying to avoid Prillar’s machine but perhaps i should just do it. I haven’t looked yet, is there anything out there on his wingman?
  22. Well, I see that Black Dog has a Sturmbock addon. Anyone know of a seller in the US?
  23. No, I don't think so. One of the pilots was Priller. His aircraft appears to have been marked Black 13. I'm not sure if I have anything which had information on his wingman. IV/JG3 appears to have been based in Germany and was attacking the bombers. According to the text in the one photo above they either attacked the beach head from Germany or temporarily moved to France to do so.
  24. Thanks, Mark. I noticed that, started into looking at that. I'll see what I can find.
