  1. Another reason why this thing drags on... Mauve had inadequate cooling gills. So I used theirs to make a perch for some new ones I made myself. They are not too hard...just need a razor blade and a ruler. The harder part was to curl them... just a little. Also, note the Master brass machine guns are now permanent. They too were fiddly here at the end. One thing is that using them allowed me to sand the leading edge of the wing to my satisfaction of smoothness. I'm sure all of you know the pain of trying to clean up a seam right around the guns. Here is the sliding hood I made with scrap plastic and a candle. Actually I made a spare one too. The Eduard masks are in place and are a time saver but take several tries to fit right... Here is my spare sliding canopy and I'm sacrificing it to mask the cockpit. It actually fits like the real thing against the Griffon metal canopy rails! It's a bit satisfying as I nearly went blind and crazy installing those f%$#g things. PRIMER!!! I told myself that if I didn't get the primer on this weekend that there is no way it will be done on time. You get a look at my messy workbench. It's like I work in a 6 inch space! There is still a lot of painting and such to go... This is Tamiya Fine Surface Primer White sprayed with my airbrush. It is really stinky to use; but is such a nice, tough product. As it finishes curing, it should "snuggle" down and reveal my rivets I spent so much time doing (I hope)...
  2. OK, gents, soon...it will be soon... I promise These photoetched canopy rails nearly drove me to drink. I had to add some styrene strip to get them to not sit too proud of the fuselage side. Fortunately, what I had on hand was a great fit! The results: (just need to weather and scratch up paint) I don't trust my ability to freehand airbrush the medium green "dapples". Creating masks of my own. Here they are stored on wax paper until needed. Accurized upper and lower intakes. Ready to primer. I do like this kit for many reasons but my AMS and OCD has made it a drag of time. I think I will do a shake 'n bake Tamiya kit or any other modern kit that does not need so much rework...
  3. True model making art here!!! Question: How did you do the "T" extrusions for the ceiling of the wells? I see some well defined rivet heads and I think you said that was photoetch?
  4. Woo Hoo! Looking forward to a nice kit of this subject in 1:32
  5. O Note: Meant to say that I have since sanded and polished the rear canopy. This photo was taken before I superglued it. The Mauve plastic is quite hard so sealing gaps and doing a sand/polish has been pleasing (just took a lot of patience and time)
  6. Excellent work! Gorgeous toning on the faded paint! Hey, where did you get the wooden work stand for the model?
  7. Well...there is model show less than two month away. I need to put a fire under my ass and get this finished. This is an example of my AMS affliction. I fabricated my own DF (direction finder) loop out of 0.4mm art wire from the craft store. I wrapped it around a paint brush handle and burnished with a wooden tool to get it nice and round. The DF loop supplied in the Mauve kit was surprisingly accurate in diameter but was thick. Trying to superglue the shaft part on was hard as my eyes are not as good as they used to be... this means I really do need to go LSP!
  8. In general, as the war progressed they began doing less and less interior primer. They determined the estimated service life to be so short in combat that corrosion was not going to be a concern!
  9. See if you can control the white balance of your camera. There may be selection for sunny, shade, flash, etc. If you are using flourescent lights that can also affect this and you might have a setting for that. If you are using the "raw" photo (.DNG file) then this doesn't matter and you can adjust the white balance in post processing with programs like Adobe Lightroom or others. It looks like your phone just has a better automatic setting for indoor lighting. If you are using the camera .JPG file then this is a compressed file taken from the raw sensor data and some of the color decisions are made during the file compression...that is why camera white balance either needs adjustment/setting or just try the auto again.
  10. Wonderful work and great production rate!!! I'm so slow that is like 20 years of production for me!

    1/32 B-29?

^ Totally agree. I'd never do something as huge as a 1:32 B-29 but would love a nicely done B-26.
  12. Yes, that lower intake on B/C/D mustangs is offset from the lower wing surface due to boundary layer interactions (I'm an AERO eng). That weird thing on the drawing is in fact a fresh air intake and I think it might be cockpit fresh air?
  13. Happy 2019! It will be here for us is less than one hour! Work still progressing. Painting cockpit parts. Here are the cockpit sidewalls, the floor and seat. I hate doing cockpits but this resin set from True Details is a real gem.

    RAF P-39D

They flew a combat sortie with 8 P39 and only four came back (or something like that). Brits decided not to use it as a fighter.
  15. Yeah I remember that they boned up the F4F Wildcat fuselage so bad that they retooled it.
  16. Sweet! Can't wait to see some war paint on that Warhawk!
  17. I admit that while I have the GM resin conversion, I have not yet built it... I actually joined this very forum while Derek was making the masters! Yes, those masters are not perfect but to my knowledge there is nothing better available if you want a 1:32 "F" or "L". So I will be quiet now until the Trumpeter kit is in our hands and reserve judgement until then.
  18. I am a true P-40 afficiando. I can see from the photos of the sprues that this this Trumpeter kit is rubbish. What a disappointment! It appears the canopy is elliptical in cross section but the real plane has flat sides. WTF? The top of the real "F" nose is very nearly straight with only a slight curvature. I can see they got this wrong. As a picky P-40 guy, I will continue to hoard the wonderful Hasegawa kits and if I want an "F" I'll use the Grey Matter resin upgrade. Trumpeter can kick rocks....
  19. I'm pumped about the subject but will wait for a couple of build ups. Trumpeter has let me down before. I have their P-40B in 1/72, 1/48, and 1/32 and all have shape issues.
