scvrobeson Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 (edited) After finishing up the Me-109, I planned to start one of the kits I got for Christmas. The choice came down to the WNW Hannover Cl.II from my parents, or the HpH L-29 from my girlfriend. Both sounded like great builds, but the Delfin created too good of an opportunity to pass up. I've wanted to build this one for a long time, and I'm excited This first build will just be some starting pictures, the build will probably start later on this weekend. There is one problem with the kit in that one fuselage half is 1.5mm shorter than the other one. So that has been cut and a plug added in to make it the same length. After a ton of filling and sanding, it should be smooth. Then the beautiful detail will need to be put back on. Fun little Easter egg in the instruction booklet, look at what HpH had planned before Z-M came along…. Hope everyone enjoys this build as it goes along. Guest Peterpools Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 Matt Two sweet Christmas presents for sure and glad you decided to build the L-29 first. Parts looks to be very well detailed and the fuselage length problem shouldn't be too bad to correct. Looking forward to the next update and ... let the build begin Keep 'em coming Peter

I'll admit I haven't seen many of these kits built, but I did get a see a few real L-29s on the airshow circuit, since so many got sold off when the wall fell. I'm hoping the build goes well, looks like after everything is cleaned up, it should go together fine Matt

The fuselage problem has only been difficult to fix because of the really nice surface detail I want to preserve, and making sure everything is glass smooth for the NMF. Every fit issue or pinhole will be magnified, so everything has to be perfect. Should be able to start the actual build today now that the length issue is fixed Matt

scvrobeson Posted January 5, 2014 Author Posted January 5, 2014 Got started with the stretch process on the right fuselage half. Sliced it with my JLC ultra-fine saw and then added a plug from 1mm and .15mm styrene sheet. Looks like the 1.3mm plug fixed the issue nicely. Now I've spent the last three days trying to fill and sand it all smooth, and it is proving to be a challenge. Since it will be NMF, it has to be glass smooth. And with the beautiful surface detail, trying to restore that will be a make or break on this repair. Looks okay so far, but will need more filling and polishing. Matt Uilleann 1
scvrobeson Posted January 9, 2014 Author Posted January 9, 2014 I've moved onto the cockpit assemblies on this kit, since Mirek and I are in talks about a fix for the short fuselage. The cockpit assemblies are really great, as everything you could need is in the box or prescribed in the instructions. I did find a great walk-around on ARC that showed every inch of the cockpits, and was really instrumental in helping me paint this. Did also show a couple of tiny errors in the color instructions in the HpH instructions, but nothing that would change the model if you didn't do it. Iain 1
