big matt
I know I am late and I hope you guys don't mind but the mailman delivered an early birthday present. I have never built a Hurricane and there were so many great builds going on here that I thought one more would fit right in. Nothing crazy, just a mostly oob build. I am doing Flt. Lt. Arthur Victor Clowes JXB. I liked the nose art and the fact that his "kills" were noted in the stripes on the wasp. Yellow, to match the squadron marking on the spinner of the Rotol prop. Overall a nicely beat up airplane. I will have to cob together the markings as the PCM kit doesn't have them. It's another nice PCM kit so here we go. Here is the scheme(middle) from a used book I picked up for about $4.00 US. Argus Books, "Battle of Britain Aircraft" published in 1990. Fair use and all. I tried to get the control column and spade grip a bit closer with some wire, tape, solder and styrene. The floor framing and brake pressure gauge got modified a bit but I had a bear of a time trying to come up with a handle for the rudder bar. That's it for now. I am trying an experiment with my builds, staggering them so I always have some gluing, painting or weathering for whatever mood I am in. It seems to be working out. So far. PhilB
Welcome aboard big fella! And you are building a PROPER aeroplane at last! We Hurri blokes have got to stick together. Looking forward to your build although the detail and painting of your pit will probably be superlative as usual!!!!! Funnily enough I'm working out how to do that star shaped adjuster too. At least mine will be 1/24!!!! All the best with this one mate! Phil
dodgem37
Nice detail work, Matt. Love that wasp design. Sincerely, Mark
big matt
The wasp was why I chose this one Mark, I just have to figure out how to paint it or make a decal. I will probably make masks for the letters. Hey Peter, as far as the experiment goes, we will have to see. I might just be digging myself a bigger hole. You are taunting me Phil!!! I will try my best on this one, British subjects are totally new to me. You guys do all kinds of strange things!!! Ok back to work. I got some stuff stuck on the cockpit and am trying to engineer how I can paint this and glue it at the same time. The left side of the cockpit was a bit sparse so I filled it with a bunch of stuff I saw in pictures. Here's the right side after a bit of creativity. I have taken the escape panel off and attached it directly to the fuselage as I think that will give me the best chance to get the thing assembled. Here it is off and the completed tub. It still needs some plumbing and the seat. The seat is going to need a bit of work and I have already reworked the armor plate. Not sure how I am going to mount it up though. That will do it for now. Got to get back to work on the Corsair and 110.
PhilB
You are taunting me Phil!!! I will try my best on this one, British subjects are totally new to me. You guys do all kinds of strange things!!! What are you trying to say? We gave you guys the jet engine and the Beckhams, what more can you ask???? The British youth are the finest in the world at drinking, fighting, taking drugs and have the highest rate of teenage pregnancy anywhere! Seriously, I knew you would do it! Five minutes and you have a superbly detained pit whilst some of us are struggling with itinerant Trumpeter sperm in our cockpits (see my thread below) Lovely work as usual mate! EDIT: Just noticed that ELi does your scheme on his 1/32 Hurricanes Zotz decals sheet complete with Honey Bee!!!!! Phil
big matt
Hey thanks Phil! I thought we gave the Beckham's back? Haven't seen 'em around here lately. Truth is I don't get over to Rodeo Drive much. That's where they would be. Very posh. As far as the jet engine, I don't live far from an airport, you can have it back too!!! I did notice that Zotz does a sheet that includes Clowes plane. Problem is that sheet has enough for 16 Hurri's and costs almost half of what the kit cost. I just can't swing that. I am trying to come up with an alternative solution.

big matt
Dude! I love those tiny bits!! Thanks Mark, I read your post and thought it said something else... Back to work. I am having fits with the cockpit framing. It seems that I failed to keep everything squared up during glue up and it shifted on me a bit. The other problem seemed to be trying to figure out how to mount it up after paint. I realized that with the fuselage closed, almost everything would vanish so I will paint her up with the tub glued to the right fuse half and hope for the best. Added a bit of junk to the left side. After looking at Phil's control column I about threw my whole kit away. I pulled the brass off the spade grip and was delighted to see that my sloppy application of plastic cement had left a nice effect on the spade ring. Even blind squirrels find a nut once in a while. I reshaped the armor plate a bit and repositioned the bolts. The photos I had looked like there was a bit of space around the plate to just peek into the rear of the fuselage. That's it for now. Time to paint! Matt
nmayhew
Matt, great looking detail added to the cockpit - wow as to expensive decals, you could always sell the set after you have taken your option off, or maybe do some sort of trade with a fellow LSPer maybe?? just trying to offer a suggestion that would help... anyway, keep up the great work Nick

LSP_Ron
Nice work. I kind of wish I had started mine after seeing this so I could shamelessly copy your great work!
