Zero77
Hi, I got too many builds in progress at the same time, too many models to finish so it was a bit stressful and i wanted to unwind a bit from "serious" modelling. ScanmanDan's Cute series builds and then Thunnus's ones just convinced me that it was the perfect medication. In fact i had a few in the stash for some weeks (Tiger Cute Series and Meng for kids kits) but it was time to go. As a compulsive guy, i ordered a few Hasegawa Eggplanes kits and a few detail sets from Retrowings as well (damn, who can resist to that Space Shuttle cargoing a Cheeseburger...). As i plan to build several of these little cute animals, i think i'm going to use this thread all along for several builds. Let's start with Tiger models Ki-84. These kits are very nice with amazing surface details for caricature models. There not a lot to say about them that has not been said yet. The fit is very good, they can be cliped without glue (for kids) even then end in a nice model. Of course it's more funny to glue them, paint them, weathering them and so on... As i'm still not totally healed, i had to detail the cockpit. I'm not sure it's worth it as only a very few is visible once it's built and painted, but we are modellers isn't it? How fun it is to detail something in only a few minutes (i used plastic bits lying around the desk...), totally fictiously, whithout any checking of reference pictures.... Very relaxing ! Then, what would be a Japanese Army aircraft without heavy chipping ? It's very heavy, but guys isn't it a caricature? And this is a caricature of my bench (now you now why i need to relax... and to tidy it up !) : Edited October 13, 2016 by Zero77 mpk and Hubert Boillot
Zero77
The nice little engine (very nicely detailed in my opinion ! And the cockpit once enclosed. Indeed there is not a lot to be seen... And the little boy with the wings dry fitted (the fit is so good that there is absolutely no gap even without glue) : I think i can start painting tomorrow. dutik and mpk
Zero77
Thanks Dan ! It will be chipped green. Still wondering if i paint a black anti-glare stripe or not. If you cannot make your mind, just build both ! A NMF with white country defense stripe would be great, but not easy to place it as the rear fuselage is very short. Guest Peterpools
Nicolas Simply fascinated by these build. Maybe we should have a mini GB so we can all unwind a bit. Keep 'em coming Peter
Zero77
I agree Peter ! Unfortunately they are not LSP, but it seems we all have a soft spot for this cute little things.
Thunnus
Sweet! It's great to see others' takes on these fun little kits. I really like the work you did on the cockpit and I agree about the nice detailing and fit that's found on these kits from Tiger. Can't wait to see the camo! Zero77
Thanks guys ! The paint job is done. Now i'm working on a small base. I tried to use some air drying modelling clay (from Eberhard Faber). I already has very nice results in the past with that product, but this time the one i used was a light weight version (a different texture way more airy) and it was open for years so it doesn't seem to work nicely (it's still soft more than 24h later and took a weird shape when drying). I may try again with the standard clay as i just found a brand new pack in my stash. I started to build some bamboos, i think it can look good with the Ki-84, to give a more "asian" background. Here are the first tries with the chipping process. But i thought i went a bit too much on the heavy side, so i made some corrections later. And here it is. I'm still not very satisfied with the chipping, a bit overdone in my opinion. And the japanese markings in white look a bit weird on the chipped area, even though in the reality the markings sometimes resisted better to the chipping than the plain camo paint. But i will live with it, i started these small cute aircraft builds to relax, not to cry on my mistakes ! (i'll do better the next time ! Possibly on a LSP !) I think the right side looks better than the left side, so i will place it on the base with the left side turned towards the bamboos, so it will be partially hidden. I was happy with my tiny exhaust stains, though ! Edited October 2, 2016 by Zero77
Zero77
Here are the kits i've accumulated in the past months : ANd last week i received this very nice pack from Retrowings ! Great funny stuff inside ! And yes you can see a resin Mirage III/5 kit ! So at the same time, i started working on a Hasegawa egg P-38. I started to rescribe the panel lines. And also did a bit of work to make a tight fit of the nicely detailed resin cockpit :

Zero77
Nice collection! Don't like Eggplanes, bute Cute planes are raelly cute Still have a spare base earmarked for a cute B-17 with special markings Regards - dutik I dont like most of the eggplanes either as they often dont look like the real aircraft at all (like the zero or fw190 which just look like an egg with wings and the canopy is the only real clue to recognize the aircraft). But a few looks quite good (mostly the jets and the mustang). I started painted the cockpit of the P-38, with some Mr Paint interior green. It's a bit flashy at the moment. Guest Peterpools
Awesome for sure. Where in the US can I purchase a few of the Cute Planes? Keep 'em coming for sure Peter
Zero77
Thanks Peter, I know the hasegawa eggplanes are pretty easy to find (even on amazon), but for the Tiger Cute series i dont know. However you can still find them easily on ebay. I found the Meng for kids and AFV kits on my local webshop, so i think they should be available in the US as well. DesTROYer
That looks great. Not my brand of bourbon, but I like what you have done with it. Zero77
