Tips for cleaning up canopies?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

as the title suggests, wondering if anyone has any tips for final cleaning up of the canopy after the frame has been painted?

I want to get rid of the sticky residue left by masking tape, handling etc, but Im worried about using thinners etc in case it damages the clarity. :hmmm:

Any advice would be appreciated.... :)

I had this issue on my Tamiya 1/48 Dornier Do-335 Pfeil just the other day, after removing the Montex masks. I used a cottonbud dipped in T-röd (really strong alcohol) and, after removing excess liquid, I just rubbed the residue off gently. Though I suppose this is a bad idea if you've been using acrylic paint... it does remove Humbrol enamel as well (!) but only if you give it a proper scrubbing.

Perhaps regular soap and warm water will help removing it as well?

Thanks for the responses- yes, it was a montex mask I had used most recently, and acylic paint. Ive used warm soapy water in the past, just wondered if there were any other tips anyone had.
