mgbooyv8
Hi all, Yes, this one also stalled a couple of years ago: It is the Hobbycraft boxing of Trumpeters finest. It will be Egyptian and the colour scheme is based on one I found on the internet. The build stalled because I was too lazy to print the decals. How hard can it be: six roundels, a number in Arabic script and an Egyptian flag on the tail. That's all. Of course, in the mean time I found a picture of the Egyptian machine showing hard demarcations between the colours... That didn't help either. Anyway, the paint job will be unchanged and with the help of some aftermarked goodies I'll make something of it. Cheers, Peter
LSP_K2
This looks excellent! I wouldn’t worry too much about soft vs hard edges; it certainly looks Egyptian to me.
LSP_K2
This might be your solution to the markings dilemma. Just a thought.

mgbooyv8
Thanks, guys! That's a good decal suggestion, Kevin. However, in the meantime I made my own small decal sheet in ms Word: I am relatively experienced in handling the graphical bits in Office, so it's easy for me to draw some roundels. and add some text boxes with arabic numbers (I used the number from the painting in the In Action book). I found a website with roundels and flags of many countries. The Egyptian flag and roundels were downloaded. The roundels were used as pattern. The flag had sufficient resolution to serve as a base for the fin flash. It's just a matter of removing a slice at the left- and right side. All items were sized according to this colour scheme I found on the Wings Palette website: ( http://wp.scn.ru/en/ww3/f/11/82/0#19 ) It is literally crammed with colour schemes of all sorts of aircraft from all over the world! Now it's a matter of printing: at home with the deskjet or on a colour laser printer at the office. Cheers, Peter
mgbooyv8
Hi Guys, Some progress. Offcourse, my printer quit working so I had to use the color laser printer at the office. At first I had a fight with it, which was related to automatic selection of the paper thickness. They make those things too intelligent! Anyway, eventualy I won the fight and got my decals printed. I sealed them with Revell clear varnish. I used white decal paper for the roundels and fin flash and clear decal paper for the numbers on the nose. I also printed some spare roundels on the clear decapaper. The white decal paper looked a bit translucent, so I first cut some extra white disks with a compass cutter. These went on first. After that I cut the first two roundels out with a small scissors. You have to cut close to the design to avoid a white edge. The toner started flaking at the edges, so that means touching up.... These went on the undersurface of the wings: ...
mgbooyv8
...Then I used the two spare roundels printed on the clear decal sheet. These could be cut out wit a margin to avoid flaking. I put these ones on top of the wings and they look great. Now I know why Spada decals supplied their Nieport 17 decals this way. It saves careful cutting, toner flaking and touching up. Unfortunately, I had not enough roundels and fin flashes printed on clear decal sheet. So the other ones went on and that means touching up time! Anyway, decals are printed and present on the model, so now I can carry on with it! Cheers, Peter
ruzlkampf
Alright Peter!!!! I'm trying to master the decal-thing too. Defintely an art,.....not a science, eh?! I started with laser-jet stuff too, and had the same flaking problem. Now I'm onto ink-jet, and trying to figure out how to keep my cut edges from dissolving the ink after dipping in water. Gaaaaah, So you can make circles in MS Word? ANYTHING has to be easier than trying to do them in Paint! I've never used 'word', have to give that one a try. Markings came out excellent dude! Oooooh I can't wait to get the 110 done so I can come over here and bug the heck outta everybody. I wanna build a JET! Can't wait to see the next progress pics buddy. mgbooyv8
Hi Russ, I'm glad i'm not the only one having the flaking problem wit laser jet decals... . The trick with inkjet decals is also not to cut too close to the borders. And if you have to, make sure the protective coat of enamel laquer or Micro Decal film is sufficient... and only dip them in the water for a very short time... It sometimes works! When using Word for making simple shapes like roundels, here's the way I do it: - make the drawing toolbar visible - select the Autoshape toolbar - then select the simple shapes toolbaar. - for a roundel, select the ellipsoid and draw one. - select the autoshape with your mouse and select the Format Autoshape toolbar with the right button. - With that toolbar you can define the colour, the vertical and horizontal size AND its postion on the document - draw as much disks in different sizes as you need for the roundel. - With the position indicator in the toolbar, you can align them perfectly. - Select them all and group them (in the toolbar after the right mouse click after selection) - Et voila: a perfect roundel which can be copied and sized in your decal document ready for printing. - Oh, and the letterfonts in Word comes in handy too for serials etc. Hope this helps... Mikester
Great stuff! I went and bought an Alps printer several years ago thinking I would make all kinds of great decals, didn't quite work out that way though. Glad you had more success than me! mgbooyv8
Hi Jamme, A late reply, due to all kinds of things...amongst others finishing old 1/72 scale builds Thanks for the compliment. And thanks to your encouragement I have picked up this one again! Currently, I'm dabbling around with the Eduard PE cockpit parts. When I've figured out how to add pictures to my posts, I'll post updates! Cheers, Peter
mgbooyv8
Hi all, The past half year, progress has been made on this one. I made pictures, and now I have some time to do some updates. I hope the moderators will move this thread to the "in Progrss"section. Picasa is chosen as photohost, so I hope I'll manage... Anyway, the cocpit looks like this: And is in need of this: Out came the dentist's drill to remove some moulded-on 'detail': After that, the Eduard IP items were assembled and painted: Klear is used to simulate instrument glass Hmmm. I did something wrong I think... copy-past of the URL is not the way to go with Picasa. Anyone of you knows how to do it? To be continued... LSP_Kevin
I hope the moderators will move this thread to the "in Progrss"section. Done! I did forget to leave a forwarding link though. Sorry! Hmmm. I did something wrong I think... copy-past of the URL is not the way to go with Picasa. Anyone of you knows how to do it? Photobucket allows you to copy a variation of the image link designed to work with forum software such as ours. I'm not that familiar with other photo hosts, but from what I saw with your Picasa results, it doesn't do that. Instead, you just need to use the 'insert image' button in the post edit window, and the paste your Picasa link into the little field that pops up.
