imatt88
Hey all, I got a chance to score an old Matchbox SBD5 Dauntless cheap, but I really want an SBD1/2 pre-war yellow wings bird, What, if anything, must be done to backdate the kit to make it a more period correct bird? Thanks, Cheers, Ian Edited March 11, 2018 by imatt88
richdlc
whilst building my 1/18 SBD-5, one of my references was this Polish fella called Witold. He is an amazingly talented 3D CAD artist. Here's a highly detailed thread on his Dauntless, well worth a read: https://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?370606-SBD-Dauntless-(US-Navy-dive-bomber)
Dave Williams
Off the top of my head, Differences in cowling flaps and size of forward vent slot in sides of front fuselage. Different prop Telescopic gunsight projecting through hole in windscreen Single .30 for rear gunner Carb scoop on top on engine cowling, and it was larger on the -1 than on later models. richdlc
also, air scoop on top of the cowling IIRC correctly the engine end of the fuselage was several inches shorter than on later models
Dave Williams
Not sure if the forward fuselage was actually shorter, or if that's just an optical illusion caused by the vent slot on the -5 being much thinner than on the earlier versions. richdlc
The early one had a prop spinner they later deleted, that accounts for the extra 2†actually no, it's the cowling that was longer in the later models David66 and D Bellis
