1/32 Revell Bf-109 G-14

Recommended Posts

Hi.

This is my current build of the Revell 1/32 Bf-109G-6 as a G-14 aircraft. The initial build went together ok. I added a few aftermarket items namely;

Quickboost Gun bulges - didn't seem to fit correctly and needed putty.

Airscale instrument decals - Very hard to see what was what and could do with larger text and photos on the guide.

Quickboost machine gun barrels - Simple slot in barrels.

Montex masks - Vinyl masks to allow me to create the specific aircraft.

HGW seat belts - Great little set. Decided not to do the full rivet job on it and save it for another build.

The kit is not brilliant in areas, yet in others there is lovely detail. The undercarriage bays are beautifully detailed, whereas the fit of the wings being a multipart assembly is not too good and did leave a bit of a gap. Filler had to be used on the fuel tank attachment as it doesn't conform to the shape of the aircraft. The same happened with the oil cooler intake and required putty.

The cockpit has lovely detail which was improved using Airscales decals. The seat has moulded on seatbelts which were difficult to remove from the seat tub. However the fuel pipe being moulded in clear styrene is great as it makes it so easy to paint and still have the effect of the glass in the middle.

The wing root was a good fit helped by the spar which allows good alignment. Although there are not underwing gondolas I was tempted to purchase some aftermarket ones. However, I then noticed that these tended to be fitted to the earlier G-6 aircraft and not the later G-14 ones.

Anyway, here are the photos so far. The kit was under coated in Mr Finisher 1500 cut with Mr Color Levelling Thinner. Then Mr Paint paints were sprayed in several coats, creating a marble effect then spraying a further light coat to bring it all together.

Unfortunately I glossed the aircraft with Alclad Klear Kote which ruined it when I applied enamels. In the process of attempting to remove all the paint I managed to snap a wing in anger!! However, it is now living out the end of its days as a paint mule!! I learnt from the mistakes on that build to make my next one much better.....

Sorry to hear that. I've messed up more than one model when near the end, so I can certainly appreciate your frustration.
