Shawn M
thank you all for the support! I was able to glue the wing halves together last night and started working my way down the fuse seam. My bonehead move on the radiator was an easy fix with some putty and scrap styrene. I also took it out side and ground the resin radiator back side (inside the wing) to make sure the 'pit wouldn't foul it. Geedub, I thought about adding some facial hair but wasnt sure of the RAF 'regs for it. Pharty, yeah he got eaten up pretty bad in that fight he had with the file crew. Maru, your kindness is always appreciated, thank you geedubelyer
Shawn M
Fuse and wings are all glued up. Time to clean seams and fit the two assemblies. geedubelyer
Shawn M
oh, I also figured out mounting for the display. I took a pour block from a resin bit and glued it to the lower wing roughly in front of the control column. After I fit it all together I will drill for a solid brass pin and CA it in place. geedubelyer
Shawn M
ok here we go! Mounting solution: Horribly over exposed, but here is the resin pour block I used for the 'pin' and the view from the outside, the tube will be trimmed once its glued in place This little foam block has been a god send on the last 4 builds had to mock it all up MikeC and geedubelyer
Shawn M
Fitting the wing to the fuse was a challenge, lots of sanding, fitting, sanding, fitting and so on. I've got it to the point now that it should go pretty smoothly with minimal filler. geedubelyer
mozart
Well done Shawn, a man after my own heart with plenty of sanding and fitting to ensure the optimum fit and little filler, makes sense in my book. Max Shawn M
Shawn M
Thanks Max, I was quite pleased with the fit considering the plastic is 40+ years old and no where near "true". I hope to start finishing the seams this week and get the sub-assemblies joined for good this weekend. geedubelyer
Shawn M
Got the fuse seams sanded and puttied and sanded again. Rescribed some panel line and need to restore the rivets next. I also completed the display base and am quite pleased with it. On a whim I decided to force the Eduard harness over his massive melon, surprisingly it worked! I need to rebuild the elevator trim tab actuators as I managed to get the elevators on the wrong sides...aka upside down. Plodding along with small details and sub assemblies, should be in paint this week. geedubelyer

Shawn M
Thanks Maru! Build may slow down a touch as I cut my finger last night prepping dinner...oops But I did fill the gap on the right aileron left by the Barracuda replacement, odd part is the left side is exactly the right size... Shawn M
thanks Maru! With care I managed to get some more work done last night. Care.....something I should have used more of as I totally overlooked the incorrect elevator hinging when I put them all together! So out came the razor saw, files, scriber and putty. Lets see if I can make it look acceptable. geedubelyer
geedubelyer
Hey Shawn, hope you've recovered sufficiently to carry on with your Spit. How'd the elevator mods go? Cheers. Shawn M
Shawn M
Hi gang, Finger is as healed as its gonna get, a little loss of feeling in a small spot but nothing I haven't dealt with before. The mods to the elevators turned out far better then I expected! I got the wing glued to fuse along with the horizontal stabs and the rudder. Im giving the wings a solid 2 days to firm up before I go in and blend it and fill the few small gaps. Horizontals are filled and sanded. I also spent some time detailing the Barracuda Radiator flap with some spare PE bits. I'll get some pics up of it tomorrow after my bench time tonight.
