Brian79
I'm going to attempt to convert the Tamiya "E" model phantom to this version. I've noticed that the wing tips appear to be different. Does anybody know if there was an aftermarket set produced for them? Also if anyone else is familiar with the differences between this version and the E, please let me know. I used to see them fly over my in-laws house in Japan a lot and figured I'd try to build one. thanks
Guest Nigelr32
Um, why don't you just build a Tamiya F-4EJ kit? Sorry if I seem blunt, but I'm sure many modellers are asking the same question??
Kagemusha
Wolfpack made a conversion - it's the Kai version they flew, which is a wee bit different from the standard F-4EJ - http://store.spruebrothers.com/product_p/wpd32040.htm they also made one specific for the Black Panthers http://www.wolfpack-d.com/catalog/htm/WP32/32010.html but this has been oop for sometime, the standard Kai conversion is also now oop. It just seemed to me that you wanted to convert a Tamiya kit into another version that is already readily available from Tamiya? However, if it is inaccurate, then that's another story!! I responded because I thought you might not have realised there was a kit of your chosen subject available. I obviously haven't done any research on the actual kit, why would I ?? Sorry again for responding, hopefully you'll need help one day with something I know about.. ..

BloorwestSiR
The Tamiya E and EJ kits are pretty much the same inside the box. The main difference being the decal sheets. The Tamiya EJ kits represents the earlier versions of the plane prior to the Kai updates. Carl

Its not in english but is a great book on the JASDF Phantoms. Has several pictures of the jet your looking at doing. There are also some model builds in the rear half of the book, great pictures. Not sure if there is a version in english! I have the WP set, but to be honest I must have got a last run cas the detail is muddy! There's not much to the build that you can't do yourself in my opinion. The front IP and dash are a bit different. I can try to scan some pics for you if you can't find the book. Darren Howie
There are some significant differences between a Kai and standard EJ. You cant build a Blue anti shipping stike F-4 out of the F-4EJ kit without a bit of work. Cockpit front and back, wingtips, tail, radome weopons. The Wolfpack sets have it all i think except he AAM-3's i cant remember if you had to buy them seperately. Great looking F-4's and still punching holes in clouds today.. thierry laurent
Hi, Out of my memory, there are other differences than the decals: The kit also has a different RIO upper panel, AIM-9L sidewinders and sticky photoetched elevator strengtheners. The two first elements are replaced by other ones if you build a Kai with the Wolfpack et. However, for the last item, this is more annoying if missing! I can't remember precisely but I also think the Japanese version of the kit had later LAU launchers. The AAM-3 missiles were in the initial Wolfpack set. So, even with the Wolfpack set, it is recommended to start with the EJ kit! HTH
