  1. This is representation of Erla-built Bf 109G-14 "Black 13" from15./JG5 at Kjevik, Norway in 1945. All A.M.U.R. Reaver sets, such as spinner & airscrew, cowling and oil cooler fairing with radiator mesh were used. The plane had late-war finish with several shades of RLM76 on lower surfaces and 75/82 on top.
  2. With my small scale 109 99% finished and my group build entry a little stalled (waiting for a 3D printed part) I'm ready to start something new. I picked Hasegawa's Bf 109F, which was my second LSP kit ever bought ca.7 years ago, from my stash. Here's the project inventory: So what's the plan? I'm not going to build the 1000000th Marseille 109 but a quite interesting alternative: Red 2 from 8./JG 27 which has some really heavy mottling on the fuselage and wings. There's some pictures of the original and some profiles (not sure about copyright, so link only). Eagle Cals suggest a usual RLM74/75/76 scheme overpainted with RLM79 on the upperside and followed by heavy mottling with RLM80. Not your usual 109 Trop for sure! I've collected some aftermarket stuff for this build: - MG17 tips from Master - the MG FF barrels will be used on my 109E build. - Brassin exhausts, I hope they'll fit since they're meant for the Revell 109G-6 - CMK wheels, cheap (~4€) and a slight improvent over the kit parts - Aires cockpit, at first I wanted to go for scratch building the cockpit details but then there was one post in the LSP discussion indicating that this Aires set is one of the rare examples of good fit. I'll see.... That's the whole plan for now, building might start at the end of the week. So long Joachim
  3. OK, my first new LSP model here for quite a while now, the Trumpeter 1:24 Bf 109G-6 (late version), graciously donated to me by our own Mark (dodgem37), thanks again, Mark, you're truly a good man. The ability to start from the beginning, and knowing that I already have some AM for the kit, has prompted me to throw caution to the wind and begin this, as one of my projected entries for the 2019 national convention, along with a few other choice selections.
  4. Hi everyone, well as many of you know I started a model in the summer with every intention of just enjoying modelling for myself but what always happens happened - I started thinking of products! It is the nature of the beast I guess but I really do want to crack on with the Revell bf 109 G-10 Erla and I have three new products at hand to help me along with the fantastic Barracuda items.I really need to set aside days that are for me, not AIMS otherwise I will never get anything built other than un-painted display models. I enjoyed painting the Aires cockpit - the fit caused problems and I still have large gaps in the canopy sill to work on but I was able to get the fuselage closed up fairly quickly. I wish I had not as when I decided I wanted a 'hatches and latches' set I now have lots of holes in the fuselage with no pre-installed interior detail so I will have to do the best I can. The upper cowl, whilst not perfectly addressing the width of the engine cowl does however trick the eye into thinking the cowl is much wider than it was, it isn't but the flatness of the resin part really helps together with the gun openings being further apart. Sadly after production was well underway I was informed that on Erla machines the gun opening is not straight cut at the back like on the U4 so I have rounded off mine a little and also made the cut outs for the weapons. Next up is post filling some of the interior areas and then onto laying in the PE hatch rims, all good fun!
  5. Hi everyone, a new 109 decal sheet coming in the new year for G-6 White 1, G-14 Double Chevron, G-14? red 2, Graf's G-6 'Special,' Black/Green? K-4 plus extra 202 victory badge for Graf (not a tulip machine - just wanted to make the marking) and also Black/green? '3' just as an extra in case someone wants to make the other known K-4 tulip machine with a stab flight number on it. Enjoy.
  6. New project will be the somwhat maligned Eduard 1/32 BF 109 E-4. Haven't decided on the markings yet but it iwll be a Battle of Britian era plane. Will be building basically OOB with just what Eduard provides. Which looks like quite a lot.
  7. Hi Everyone, the Late War Bf 10-9 decals recently arrived, £10.99 + shipping. email me if interested at aimsmodels1@gmail.com Anyone buying this decal sheet together with the photo-etch 'hatches and latches' and the Revell 'Erla upper cowl correction' will have 10% taken off the total. Thanks for reading. BTW the image of the decal sheet is an older version sorry - there is no JG 5 badge on the printed decal sheet.
  8. Hi everyone, available soon is my replacement upper cowl part with much flatter top and wider gun-troughs. You would not believe how much doing these two adjustments tricks the eye into thinking the whole engine cowl is much wider! This is what you could call a cost-effective compromise correction haha! £TBC
  9. Hi everyone my two new Bf 109 sets have just arrived, email me at aimsmodels1@gmail.com if interested. 32PE006 £5.50 + shipping, 32PE007 £9.00 + shipping
  10. Hi everyone, well still not made a model all year!!!!!! Every time I pick up a model I want to design a product instead!!!! Anyway CLEAR RESIN - its taking a while sorry - so long to de-mould and the person making them for me was away and so less the half the promised quantity materialised. Don't worry you will get a canopy if you paid for one - I won't let you down. In the mean time I got bored with Photo-Etch and wanted to do a decal sheet; as we all know there are not enough Bf 109 decal sheets available (lol) - I wanted to add to the problem with my own little collection which I will also do in 1/72 and 1/48 (sorry for using bad language) Anyway enjoy. Little tweaks to do here and there on the profiles but i am happy on the whole. Please note W Nr on White 7 and also Yellow 9 is fictitious but from the correct block for that factory. And yes I did all the correct dates underneath Muller's victory bars!
  11. Hi everyone - the plan to just enjoy making the Revell 1/32 Bf 109 G-10 Erla without thinking of products has failed and as a result two new products on their way and no modelling done haha! 32PE006 Revell Bf 109 G-10 Erla Gear bay update set £TBC (discovered the holes in the oleo leg housing were in the wrong place and well just had to fix it and add a few other bits to an otherwise excellent Revell gear bay! 32PE007 Hatches and latches Bf 109 F / G / K £TBC -

  13. This was a quick build of an old Hasegawa 1970s-vintage (I think) Bf 109E. I set out to do a straight OOB build, but couldn't resist using MDC instrument decals and an HGW seat harness to dress up what was going to be an open cockpit. As the kit decals weren't very usable, I raided my spares and generics, and ended up with this. Originally built by Erla Mascinenwerke as W/Nr. 4101 in September 1940, it became briefly Yellow 8 of 6./JG52, then Black 12 of 2./JG51. It was shot down and force-landed at Manston 27/11/1940. The aircraft is now back in its original "Black 12" guise in the RAF Museum. I omitted all armament, as the pictures I saw clearly show no wing guns, the holes being patched over. The cockpit canopy was removed at Rolls-Royce when the aircraft was flown by test pilot Mr Harvey Heyworth, who was over six feet tall; the canopy subsequently mislaid. Some more info here http://www.kenthistoryforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=18922.0 and full story here: https://www.rafmuseum.org.uk/documents/collections/78-AF-624-Bf109E-4101.pdf And on with the pics. Not my best model, but a great mojo-restorer. Thanks for looking.
  14. Hi everyone, I am pleased to announce that I have been able to re-launch my Mistel 1 set with the additional item of the bulged 109 canopy in clear resin. The set is now £55.00 and includes as before the warhead, two styles of detonator trunk, white metal cradle, decals for Red 6 and White 1 as well as PE frame best wishes John
  15. Hi everyone, If you love Mistel's and you bought from me at some point in last few years the Mistel 1 set you will have noted that sadly I never managed to do the Bf 109 special bulged canopy. Well thanks to 3D printing I now have one that I am busy polishing up ready for clear resin casting - will also be doing in 1/72 but that is another story haha. I will also be re-launching the Mistel 1 set with the air scoops and larger radiator housing as these 109 F's seem to be hybrids. I knew about the radio hatch being moved forward but had never studied the lower nose before. Obviously if you already have the Mistel 1 set and you just want to buy the extra parts that is no problem. Will post when all is ready, thanks John
  16. Hello! Here is my build of Hasegawa's Bf 109 G-10. This kit was a gift from a very good friend and I have savoured every minute of building, painting and finishing it! I had a blast with this one and its one of my all time favourites. I have wanted to build Red 2 for quite some time so I was pleased as punch to be given a chance to build this model. I hope you enjoy my pics, more photo's and details can be found on my blog. I'm no Luftwaffe expert so forgive me if its not quite up to scratch! For now I'll shut up and post some pics!
  17. My part of this group build will be a Revell Erla Bf 109. I ordered the last necessary part today (but may add Eduard landing gear later) and will start cut and glue very soon. To keep suspense I will give more details a bit into the build but thought I should at least turn up at the starting line!
  18. Hello! I have just started Hasegawa's 109 G-10 and I wanted to do a WIP that's a little different. I am posting pics as I complete each step of the build and "attempting" to make it a fun way to show how my build will come together. Here's a taste of what I'm doing on my blog page where you can see more. Any feedback, good, bad & ugly will be welcomed. Go here if you want to follow this build in full: http://thescalemodelhangar.blogspot.co.uk/2015/10/work-in-progress-bf-109-g-10-in.html Laters! Darren.
  19. I stumbled on this photograph of a Jumo engined Bf 109 equipped with wing mounted cannon. Unfortunately it is posed in a manner that obscures any fuselage markings. Possibly one of the few C-3s? In any case a very rare specimen.
  20. Here are some photos I took at the Chino Planes of Fame of a Bf 109 E-7, W. Nr. 3523. The aircraft was built in 1939 as an E-1 and was later upgraded to an E-7. It ended up on the Eastern front and soldiered on until April 1942, when it was shot down by a Soviet Hurricane. More to follow...
  21. Anders Hjortsberg have a new profile up. Looking around for more photos i found this gem Gem, as in 'intriguing' that is. It is not often you get a look at both the top of the Wings, and underside of the tailplanes. The question here is about colors. I think aelirons and elevators are RLM 76. Probably wingtips too. This is the proscribed color for wooden and fabric covered surfaces. I figured the aelirons were delivered in rlm 76, and got the topside painted at the assembly when it was clear what the scheme was. The stabilisator is dark. Very strange. Should have been either metal finish, or rlm 76. The fin and rudder appear to be the same color, which seem NOT to be that of the fuselage. Yellow? I can't recall any late bf 109 were the fin, too, was yellow. I think it could be Rlm 76. Next there seems to be a lighter color under fuselage. On photos this area is usually very shaded making it difficult to interpret. A close look around the balkencreuz suggest the fuselage was not mono color. Thoughts!
  22. Hi Guys, Wanted to post our newest EagleCals for the Bf 109 Erla G10, two new sheets here in late April. http://www.eagle-editions.com/eaglecals/32/erlas-bf-109-g-10s.html Visit our site for details! Cheers, Judy and Team Eagle
  23. Hi gents my last contribution for 2013…….. AX-? is probably the most famous Bf 109 captured by the SAAF. She was captured by 1 Sqn (hence, the AX codes), test flown quite extensively until pranged…. Her sister is stored at the War Museum in JHB. A bit rushed to get in finished before year's end…. no quite happy with some parts… oh' well. I lost one of the exhausts - in the F-4 Hasegawa has each individual exhaust as a single item… anyhow, it went walk about after bouncing off the table… so I had to use a spare set of Ki 61 exhausts…...
