  1. Being away from the bench is proving to be an expensive exercise, too much spare time shopping for kits instead of building HOWEVER I did manage to snag the last of my all time Holy-Grail kits. Not a LSP, admittedly, but impossibly cool none the less! Tom's Modelworks 1/48 Sikorsky S38 The box is entirely lackluster so here's a perv at some of the parts within Details are cast resin and white metal. And a LOT of plastic strut stock. I'm already scheming about how to make a square metal-tube structure to go inside the top wing and booms, that will pick up the central strut, to make a nice solid model. Can't wait to have a go!! Given its holy grail status, that means I should never need to buy another model ever again, right?
  2. Wahoo!! Looks like the G-50 is getting a stablemate!!
  3. Whilst I've had a bit of a break from my bench lately, my wallet hasn't been so fortunate. Despite USPS' best efforts, these beauties turned up for Christmas
  4. Oooof, that's a tough call, but to purchase the 1/48 or the 1/32?!
  5. I too can only echo everyone else's sentiments that beyond being a supremely talented modeller, he's a great bloke too! You deserve the praise, Peter!
  6. Thanks mate! Yes, multiple display cases, but the shak doesn't fit in any of them fully assembled it's a deceptively big machine!
  7. Thanks guys, it was a great tool for learning! And on that note, she's done! And all packed away Thanks for following along guys, this one was a fun build! Denzil
  8. Thanks for the pictures, guys! The show looked spectacular!
  9. No dramas mate, and to make it even more convoluted, I'm an Aussie living over here Thanks for the kind words Denzil
  10. Nice progress Kev! Keen to see what you do with it
  11. Thanks mate, I think the end result was as much luck as it was skill. I just wanted to experiment and the results both exceed my expectations, but also proved a good lesson in setting up a process to achieve consistent results of future models Yeah, looking past the sheer bulk of the machine, there's a lit of little details that add to the intrigue!! Thanks Phil, much appreciated! Thanks mate, I won't be at Telford, but the idea of boxing it up and sending it there from here in the USA is certainly an intriguing idea! Cheers guys, Denzil
  12. Thanks again Derek im going to attempt some real pics of this with a proper camera, so watch this space! All it'll do is accentuate the multitude of flaws in the finish Thankyou mate! I would have loved to have experienced one of these things in the flesh! I'm glad I could help bring those memories back Thanks mate!
  13. Thanks very much mate! Nearing the finish line with this one. Painting and weathering lots of fiddly bits Props Exhausts... ...and stains Test fitting Standing on her own 4 feet! From the last pic, you can see she is one big machine, even in 1/72, to the point that she won't fit in any of my cabinets fully assembled. To that end, I had some pink-foam lying around and the arrival of a hot-wire cutter in the mail had me wanting to try it out. A few measurements, cuts and hot-glues later, one happy little stand. It's not worthy of display, but it will keep thr shakleton safe in the cabinet Just a few details remain, then this one will be done. And THEN I'll get cracking on another weird and wonderful 1/32 build Denzil
  14. Starting to fill in the little details. The exhaust shrouds were far more work than I envisioned, but theure on now, as are the flock of propellers, and that flagpole thing on the top of the fuselage
  15. Clever marketing. These "what will it be" style posts keep people talking about Kotarë right up until the chat changes to "why did they choose that"/"look what they got wrong" threads. If they announced what they're going to release 6 months out, they'll have the headlines for a few days until the next big thing comes along. Keeping people guessing keeps them on the top page. It'll also lead to website visits and Google searches. All good things in the current age.
  16. Paintey-paint. This has been the most technical paint job I've done so far, so it's fun seeing ideas of the mind, converted into real life. Lots of playing with colours. I'm glad they're subtle enough to not be picked up by the camera, but also that makes it hard to do show and tell I've been meaning to try out varying the matt/gloss finish on worn out aircraft, and this one was the perfect canvas. Work in progress After trying this stuff out, and learning how to tackle different techniques, I'm at the point of the build where im losing interest, and just want to get it finished to move onto the next thing. Must get her finished! Denzil
  17. I agree that an early 109 series would make sense, and would also offer a Duellists-style release opportunities, not to mention an A model would look great next to the Mk1 Early spitfire! Although, Anything of the Boeing P12 lineage would be sublime
