  1. Masts and fighting tops look great, Ernest. It's exciting to see it coming together.

    Galland's 109E

Today I decided to get over a hurdle... or knock it over clumsily. The PE canopy. Here it is... so far. It's not perfectly straight. I've been working on the crew and cast, too... none of them are finished, yet. There will be a couple other figures from other builds that will also join them. PE details like the canopy are just the thing to put my mojo on hold. Happens every time. Figures do it too, but to a lesser extent. So I try to pace myself by doing a bit here and there of each until I can get through them all. Thanks for looking.
  3. That mast looks great! I need a lathe. I keep telling myself this, but never buy one. The problem with my little piece of Australia is the humidity. I don't have any non-stainless steel tools that haven't developed a dense patina of rust.
  4. Wow, Mike! I'm glad you are back to talking to us. Rest well and get better.
  5. Well…. I might be going with your wife on this one. I find any kind of work with fine lines tedious. But the results look impressive. I’m curious…. Has any of your research led you to what they used to stain or paint the darker wood fixtures?
  6. They did say they were going to build what they wanted... so somebody wanted a 109. Which is always cool with me. I wonder if they'll drop a few versions of 109's like they did with the Spitfire before coming out with a new type. Wouldn't that be sweet?
  7. I'm amazed by those vortex generators. Very impressive.
  8. I like the comparison photos, too. I started collecting underside photos a year ago, and they definitely help add to the model. Coming out sweetly.
  9. A break from LSP's or a break from models or a break from WIP's?

    Galland's 109E

I planned on a big modelling weekend, but that didn't happen. got home from work Friday to observe that my toilet cistern was leaking at a furious rate. We have two loos, so I fixed it Saturday morning. Then the missus wanted to assemble some flat pack furniture... Damn those Swedes! And it went on and on with laundry, mowing after a week of torrential rains. Anyway, this afternoon I got the wings on and added the engine assembly. The two pieces that cover the engine and MG's will take some finessing, as their profiles are unequal. And I will have to remove some plastic to get one of them to fit over the MG's. It is always the way with 109's and interior details. With all the rain, it has been humid as hell. So, I'm hoping that next week will give me some drier weather time for paint. One of the quirks of this kit is that it was made to have movable control surfaces. After putzing around with the PE parts for the ailerons and flaps, I decided to do the rudder and elevators without the PE and fill in the open spaces. The empennage went together sweetly with no droop or cock-eyed angles to deal with.
  11. Wow! Well done! Love to see the pilot figure done as well.
  12. That looks great, Max. I love those One-man-army masks, too. Makes me want to have my own laser cutter.
  13. Ooh... Loving that paint job. I love the pics where it's just the blue grey and I can see the subtle differences.
  14. I honestly don't wish for anything right now. I'll buy the K, but don't really have a vision for one. Same thing with the Spitfires. Got one... don't really need another. The K really knocked me off my feet. But it does open the door for all of the /AS versions and G-10. So, I can see the logic, there. Where they go next... They are still a young company. I don't see them taking risks with trainers and other non-mainstream stuff. I think jets will be too big and too risky. There's plenty to choose from and they could probably do a better job than anyone before them. Whatever they make, I'll probably buy at least one.
  15. I love reference photos. I have books referencing things I could barely get hold of when I was a younger man. Now... all I lack is time to make those modelling dreams come true.
  16. Just memories of WIP threads gone by. I really don't feel obliged to search.
  17. There's so much Kotare can do to right the wrongs of other manufacturers. I guess we'll have to hope they stay in 1/32 LSP's and don't branch into other genre's and scales. I hear there is no 1/32 F4F wildcat out there that doesn't require major surgery. Just sayin...
  18. Nice work, Ernest. Nothing worse than curved parts.
  19. I guess the only downfall I feel with late German fighters is the lack of photos tying machine to aviator. There are a few here and there, but most late war German planes are shown in scenes of destruction or abandonment.
  20. Glad to see you back at it Ernest! The ship is coming together so well!
