  1. No problem, I am a big fan of using the advanced search feature, you really should always use it before buying on ebay. I bought a greenworks leaf blower and forgot to check advanced this week, I could have saved another $20.00 on my purchase if I had checked sales history. I over bid by a few bucks on an auction. Still happy with my purchase in that case but you should always check advanced search.
  2. The best way to gauge value of model kits on ebay is to run an advanced search on the kit you are selling and look at sold listings. then you can see the recent highs lows and kind of figure what it is really worth. There will still be outliers on both ends because there is always someone that buys too high and there is always someone that lists a buy it now or otherwise gets a low price. Generally though when I want to know what something is worth I look at the advanced search.
  3. Any one that does not think this is not an LSP, has never seen one of those go airborne at the Nurburgring. Love the build. This is flying just closer to the ground.
  4. Agree, it is longs said they do whatever they feel like. What too many I think fail to appreciate is that Tamiya is interested in the big picture of scale modeling not just one subject or scale and that they will focus on major projects and the choice of major project will effect everything else. So if they choose to do a 1/350 ship like the Yamato a few years ago, we may not see a /132 plane coming at the same time. They have done a bunch of 1/48 planes lately, a lot of 1/35 armor, 1/24 cars, and a 1/12 bike. For a while they were doing almost no new 1/48 planes. i just think their focus swings across different modeling subjects and scales, they seem to try to keep some diversity at the same time. I don't think they want to get pinned down in to just one thing. I think as a result the next 1/32 plane if any is completely unpredictable and it is not a given that we will see one in the next year or three.
  5. Your points are fair but with the expense of 1/32 Tamiya won’t do the unusual, they have done some unusual subjects in 1/48 but we won’t see that in 1/32. We will have to rely on other manufacturers to provide the off the beaten track. Their business model is what it is, they are a huge toy company not just a model maker, they do what they want and what they can make money on. To me the modeling world is booming and there are plenty of companies taking risks on being different, just look at HKM and Zoukei-Mura. They are the risk takers in 1/32 plastic. Please don’t expect the same from Tamiya as I don’t think they are interested or willing. I find it amazing that a company would do a Lancaster in 1/32. The new releases Zoukei is releasing are very interesting as well.
  6. Hi Jennings, according to Any at Andy's hobby headquarters he had some indication that Tamiya was taking a 1/32 break. I hope that is not the case but could understand them doing so. They do go through phases from what I see. You see them do a lot of cars, you see a big burst of armor, you see a burst of 1/48 aircraft, then we had a phase of 1/32 planes with very few new 1.48 aircraft. Lately to me it feels like more emphasis on 1/48 planes and armor. I could see nothing in the 1/32 front coming from them for more than a year maybe longer. I will be overjoyed if I am wrong. I just hope they keep release great models. I don't buy them all, only the ones I want but they make such great stuff. I was actually hoping they would do the Toyota that won LeMans this year, but don't see a car announcement so far. I am fairly enthusiastic about this spitfire release although would have preferred it in 1/32. Maybe next year or the year after we get it in 1/32.
  7. I thought it a joke when someone posted this. I know it is not 1/32 but I like this, will probably get one. I just confirmed and found this photo for myself on Tamiya Japans website, unfortunately no 1/32 anouncements. Two armor kits and the new MKI Spitfire in 1/48. We could still see a surprise but I am betting against that. I remain concerned that we will not see a Tamiya 1/32 kit for a while still. If this MKI is done in the style of the new 109G we are going to have something really special.
  8. I generally disagree with the idea that because something has been done before, that It can’t be redone. I do equate scale models directly with technology, we could have said in 1989 we already have PC’s why do we need something newer. The intel 386 chip is plenty good, we don’t need no pentium processor or anything better. I would agree with the premis that the 109 was done enough if we had a contemporary kit done to the standard of Tamiya or Zoukei. For me the Hasegawa kit’s are more like big 1/48 kits than the modern tooling I am interested in. I do not speak to the 109 per se but to any subject that has been done as the argument is made frequently with any kit Tamiya might realistically do that someone has already done it. Tamiya is not going to do a plane in 1/32 that is not a main stream subject and completely new. It will be a mass market subject like the 109 or certain other choices but I assure if they do another 1/32 kit it will be something obvious that many will complain it has already been done. The state of the modeling art is rapidly advancing, and I am not particularly sentimental about old plastic, I want the latest that new molding state of the art can bring. I know many others want the old stuff but, for me even a kit that is 10 years old can be improved upon.
  9. With luck it will be a 1/32 scale plane with a 1/48 scale cockpit as I like mixing subject matter these days.
  10. I think many of us have complaints about the fit of Aires parts, however, in spite of all the work to make the parts fit, that work is probably still faster than figuring out how to scratch build and installing a similar part of our own making in the same space. I like Aires parts but they always add a lot of work to the subject but if you want more detail more work is going to go along with it. I hope to see your build and see how it goes.
  11. I am not all there on masks, I used them on my Mustang build, I am open to them but not convinced that I have to use them. I probably won’t on my next build. I find them extremely fidly on U.S. insignia with the star, bars and border.
  12. Per Dana’s post above, I looked at Tamiya’s decals and instructions quickly. I don’t think they are quite right per the Funk sheet and what it offers, maybe they could be made right. One set of national insignia are outlined in red as we know that may not be correct. They have another set though in the sheet outlined in blue. If concencerned about accuracy, you deifnately need to do some homework. Thanks Dana, I have given some thought to doing 883 myself as I have all three of the Tamiya Corsairs on the shelf at the moment, however years ago I did a -1. I am thinking of a bouble build of the -1A and -1D at the moment. I also have both of your books and have been studying those carefully.
  13. Keep in mind that thickness of the decal is relative, it is only slightly thicker than aftermarket ones, on the other hand, you rarely have color bleed through on a tamiya decal. Try out a spare on something, I think you will find them an acceptable solution in most cases. I have no problem using them if they are right for what I am building. If you are going to use decals Tamiya’s are usually an adequate choice. The main time I would not use them is if they are wrong, for example the National insignia they supplied with the Mustang were arguably too dark. So I did not use them. However, I tried a.m. decals and had bad color bread through from my overlap of invasion stripes. I used masks in the end but maybe should have just used the kit decals to begin with. Most of us on here I think are old enough to remember truly bad decals. I certainly do, my models I built early on would have huge outlines from decal film until I learned to carefully trim the film of each one, today that is often not necessary at all. I remember one revell build in particular in which the decals were so bad, they fell apart and or broke as I tried to apply them. Today I would to use a decal from a manufacturer like Timmy’s if there is something that is more accurate or better resolution etc, but I would not rule out Tamiya automatically. I would say use the best tool for the job.
  14. P-51B, P-40B hands down those are the two I want the most, lot’s of others I like, many others I would buy if but for me those are the big two.
  15. My guess is that it does not fit either kit without lots of work. Typically Aires parts of this nature require lots of sanding, thinning and fitting on any kit they go in. I would think with lot’s of work it will go in the 109 of your choice. I used their wheel well kit on the 109 F and after lots of work it finally went in and the wings closed up but the Hasegawa plastic was thick and took a lot of thinning to get the parts where they were supposed to go. Generally I have had the same experience with Aires parts of that nature. Since radio compartments in 109’s usually only have detail for the half of the fuselage where the radio sits in some ways this may be easier to fit than a cockpit or wheel well where you have to thin both sides of parts that go together around it.
  16. I have an old enclosed acrylic model display box that I use for letting clear parts dry in. It was damaged on the side so has a small hole to vent. I dip my canopy parts in future, I have used the same bottle of future forever, I dip the parts and pour the liquid back into the battle. Then when ready I put the parts in the box to dry. I have had good luck as long as the parts are clean when I dip them, they don’t have dusties after they dry.
  17. I don’t have one on my shelf at the moment, might end up doing that. Since someone said mix the chormate yellow with black, I happened to have similar colors on the shelf. I wanted to see what I would get and if I liked the mix. I did not really like the result. I did not think it looked right.
  18. I messed around with a yellow black combo. I have tamiya xf-4 yellow green so I mixed that with black per the commentary above, I felt it too olive drab. I felt in the end it needed something else. The variation I have found so far is a 1 part tamiya flat blue, 1 part semi gloss black and 4 parts xf-4 yellow. I am not saying it is right but it looked like a good cockpit great to me. I may try a bit of green instead of the blue and see where I end up also.
  19. I will do one of two things, i meant to try this last night. I have a jar of Tamiya zinc chromate yellow and I was planning to mix with various amounts of black and put the swatches on a note card with notes of the mix. See which ones looked right and have some gradients just for variation on a couple parts. If I don’t like the result as described above I will order a bottle of interior green from mission models. I started using there stuff and am happy with it so far.
  20. Tamiya decals may be thick but as a rule colors under the decal don’t bleed through. With good decal setter they will conform nicely. Be careful with Mr. Marc softer as it is very strong and wants to bead on the surface of the decal this in turn leaves blotchiness sometimes for me after the decal dries.
  21. Just got to work, and now that I see this reply I want to go home and do some mixes and see what it looks like. I found Mission models makes an interior green, I was thinking of using that last night but then looked at this post. This will be interesting to see the options.
  22. Thanks I will look more closely at the text then. I understand and appreciate that the flash has altered the appearance of the colors. What I see that is of interest though is the contrast between certain parts. That is a look I want to use as inspiration and which is not as monochromatic, only because I think it will look more interesting. By the way my biggest concern and focus right now is just figuring out which markings I want from the new decal sheets Jennings and co did.
  23. I had Dannas book out last night studying it in anticipation of starting a -1d or a double build of a -1A and -1D as I have all three of the Tamiya kits on my shelf right now. Years ago I accidentally order two -1’s but I will do that one another time. My comment is limited to observing the photograph at the end of the book. It is a wonderful high resolution photo of the cockpit of either a -1A or -1D restored at the National Air and Space Museum. The wonderful thing about the photo is that is shows a number of shades of black as well, for example the electrical boxes on the side of the cockpit are a flatter black grey while the dials are a shinny black. The seat specifically, if not for Jennings post above, I would have thought was a blue green color. I do not have the expertiese to say what the colors are supposed to be. When I build my next corsair, hopefully starting very soon, I will incorporate what I learn from the photo and use multiple shades and colors in the pit. I won’t stick religiously with zinc chromate green and black. I will try to keep it within the spirit of correct and follow what appears to be a proper restoration. The fact that there is some color varioution just helps make the pit visually interesting.
  24. I have Dana’s book with the NASM Corsair and I definitely see the zinc chormate on some parts, then the foot troughs, the seat and some other parts are a greenish shade, I did not think if Dull dark green. I thought they looked a bluish green. That could be light reflection though. I was tempted to add blue to a dark green shade and maybe some zinc yellow. I am not arguing that they should be something other than ddg. Only that light reflection made me think the color was a blue green shade bs, dark green.
  25. I saw the new Lancaster has a release date in October. If HK can make money on that thing surely we could get some of the single engine planes we really want done. I know there are some really passionate builders on here that want a 1/32 Lancaster, I think it is a neat idea, but I can’t imagine that the demand for it is near what a P-40B or some others we want would be.
